Carlos Zambrano

  • Carlos Zambrano is a right-handed starting pitcher who has played his entire eight-year Major League career with the Chicago Cubs.

Zambrano received a six-game suspension by the MLB on May 28, 2009, in response to his rant following an ejection during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He reportedly smashed a Gatorade dispenser and threw other objects. Zambrano apologized for the incident and does not plan to appeal the suspension.ESPN.com: Zambrano Won't Appeal 6-game Penalty

  • Life and Career

A native of Venezuela, Zambrano is one of baseball's most exciting and emotional pitchers on the mound. An integral part of the Cubs starting rotation, Zambrano has been a consistent 200-inning starter since 2003, never winning fewer than 13 games, never finishing the season with higher than a 3.95 ERA, and never finishing with a losing record. Zambrano is also an above-average hitter with power; he clubbed six home runs in 2006 alone, and has 13 for his career.
  • Scouting Report

Zambrano has a powerful 94-96 mile per hour fastball which he offsets with a devastating sinker. His main fault is that he surrenders too many walks, although if he uses his sinker effectively he can often induce hitters to ground into double plays.
  • Carlos Zambrano No-Hitter

On September 14, 2008, Zambrano pitched a no-hitter against the Houston Astros. It was the first no-hitter for the Cubs franchise since Milt Pappas pitched a no-hitter in 1972.ESPN.com: Zambrano masters Astros en route to first no-hitter for Cubs in 36 years(September 15, 2008)
