On April 10, 2008, a nude photo of Carla Bruni, the wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, was put up for auction at Christie's in New York.

The picture, taken in 1993 by photographer Michel Comte while Bruni was working as a model, came from a private collection and was expected to fetch about $4,000. However, the winning bid for the picture was $75,000 and, after commission, the final price tag was $91,000.
