  • Carl Perkins was an influential American singer, songwriter and guitarist best known for his song "Blue Suede Shoes" and for being one of the founding artists of the rockabilly genre. As a young man, Perkins endured and overcame both alcoholism and serious injuries sustained from a car accident. He died of throat cancer at age 65.
