Long was suspended for 12 races on May 20, 2009, for using an engine that exceeded NASCAR standards during a May 16, 2009, race. Suspension
After blowing an engine in practice for the May 16, 2009, Sprint Showdown at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Long's crew replaced the engine, sending the bad engine to NASCAR officials per policy. The engine was found to be in excess of the maximum engine size of 358.000 cubic-inch displacement, which is a violation of NASCAR rules.
