• Carl Barks was an American comic book artist and writer for Disney.
  • Career

    Carl Barks is known best for his work on Donald Duck-related comics for Disney. Hired by the company in 1935, he created the fictional town of Duckburg and many of its inhabitants.

    Some of the characters he introduced with his work included Gladstone Ganer, Gyro Gearloose, the Beagle Boys and Magica de Spell. Perhaps his most memorable creation was the wealthy and grumpy Scrooge McDuck.BarksBase: About Carl Barks

    While Barks worked for the company, Disney did not allow him to sign any of the comics he worked on.Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Carl Barks After he retired, however, Disney acknowledged his contributions, and the artist enjoyed plenty of fan recognition in his later years.

    Barks died of leukemia in 2000 at the age of 99.
