Caribbean

The Caribbean is a region in the Atlantic Ocean that encompasses the Caribbean Sea as well as a large group of islands located in the area. It is a very popular travel destination, since many of the islands enjoy warm weather year round.http://www.caribbean.com/ Caribbean islands include independent nations, such as Jamaica and Cuba, as well as smaller territories, such as St. Lucia, Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands.http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/carib.htm

Many of the islands in the Caribbean are governed by larger mainland countries. For example, parts of the Virgin Islands are controlled by the United Kingdom and the United States. St. Barts, a nearby island, is governed by France. Saba is controlled by the Netherlands. Islands are also grouped depending on their location in the Caribbean Sea. Those toward the west of the sea, including Haiti and the Dominican Republic are considered as the Greater Antilles. The smaller islands on the east side of the sea, including Guadeloupe, Martinique and Grenada, are termed the Lesser Antilles. The Bahamas are also included in the Caribbean, even though they are to the north of the Greater Antilles.http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/carib.htm

Caribbean Travel

When booking a trip to the Caribbean, you can use the Internet to help you find out about your destination. Reputable travel websites, such as Expedia and Travelocity, can help you to find lodging on the island of your choice. Booking your trip early can also help you to arrange your stay around island festivals or celebrations you may wish to attend.http://www.caribbeantravel.com/

All-inclusive resorts, such as Sandals Resorts, offer high-end lodging for couples and families in the Caribbean. They cost more than regular hotels, but they also include meals and activities to help you to enjoy your stay.http://www.sandals.com/

One thing to remember when planning a trip to the Caribbean, though, is to be aware of hurricane season, which runs from June to November. The Caribbean is prone to tropical storms and hurricanes because of its location and warm waters, so if you are planning to travel there during the summer, be prepared to make any alternate arrangements that may be necessary due to weather.http://travelwithkids.about.com/od/caribbeanfamilyvacations/a/caribhurricane.htm
