History of Carhartt
Originally designed as overalls for railroad workers, the durability of the clothing evolved into flame and water resistant which soon became popular for farmers and construction workers. For many years, Carhartt was proud of their American made product, but due to competitive pricing from other manufacturers the line began outsourcing many of their non-core items. Even though some of their apparel is made in Mexico, sewing distribution centers there and in the U.S. are unionized.
