A caramel apple is a treat that is made by placing a fresh apple on a stick and either dipping or rolling the apple in melted caramel. Once the apple is covered in caramel, the confection can either be dried and eaten plain, or rolled in another topping, such as chopped nuts, candy, chocolate or marshmallow. The resulting caramel apple is a sticky, sweet treat most often consumed in the fall around Halloween and Thanksgiving.
