Cara Murphy is one of the six girls accused of beating teenager Victoria Lindsay with the intent of posting a video of the incident on YouTube and MySpace to embarrass her. The six girls, along with two boys who allegedly served as 'lookouts' have been charged with felony battery, and assault. Three of the girls, Brittini Hardcastle, Mercades Nichols, and Britney Mayes have additionally been charged with felony kidnapping.
According to the sheriff's office, Murphy is the girl that held the video camera through the 30 minutes of tape, and recorded the beating. Allegedly, Murphy can be heard egging the others on saying "Ooh, yeah, baby. Ooh, yeah!" Murphy also allegedly warned the girls participating in the beating that there were only 17 seconds left in the tape, and that they should "make it good."
As of April 12, 2008, Cara Murphy was released on bail. Under the conditions of her bail, she may not contact any of the other people involved in the beating and may not visit Mulberry High School to attend classes or go to functions. She also may not go to the Wing House Restaurant, where Lindsay works, or use the Internet.
