Captain Planet was an animated series created in 1990 by Ted Turner which ended in 1996. The series was created to increase environmental awareness amongst children, and plot surrounded a group of heroes called the Planeteers who banded together to help Mother earth and keep people safe from environmental hazards.

The series featured a multi-national group of pre-teens called the Planeteers. Each member was entrusted with a ring that gave them elemental powers. Together they had the ability to summon the powerful Captain Planet, who was a sentient, friendly incarnation of all their combined powers. They used both their individual abilities and their powerful ally to battle a group of villainous eco-terrorists as they hatched nefarious pollution plots across the world.

5. Ma-Ti: A non-specific South American boy with power over Heart
   • -While not a classical element, Heart was used to represent communication and empathy, and was embodied by telepathy and occasionally mind control.
