Canton is a city located in the northeast part of the state of Ohio. The city is located in Starck County. The city was founded in 1805 after being the land was subdivided into plots that year by Bezaleel Wells. Canton, Ohio is famous for being home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which was originally founded in 1963 by the National Football League. Canton OH History
After Canton's founding in 1805, the city developed very slowly due to a lack of transportation routes near the city. The city developed further during the American Civil War when Canton turned into an important industrial city for war materials for the Union army. The city continued to be a large home for iron manufacturing. This made the city a large industrial center for the Ohio Valley.
