An MBTA Commuter Rail Train that had left Boston at 4:40 pm collided with a freight car in Canton, Massachusetts on March 25, 2008. A freight car, fiulled with building supplies began rolling down a branch track towards the main line. The car had been delivered to its destination, a lumber yard, and it is unclear why it started to roll. The commuter train was alerted by a stop signal that the freight car was heading for it, and applied the brakes, able to stop, but there was no where else it could go to avoid the crash. The freight car collided withthe commuter trail around 5:20 pm.
