Mario Moreno Reyes known better as Cantinflas, was a comedian from Mexico. He was born August 12th, 1911 and passed away from old age in April 20th, 1993. He was once called the 'funniest man in the world' by Charlie Chaplin.
Cantinflas did not start as an entertainer he was first in the military and later on a professional boxer. In 1930 Cantinflas began performing at a Circus. In 1935 he joined the Follies Bergere theater, he became very popular in Mexican Theater. He had appeared in a couple of movies but in 1940 he was finally considered a movie star in the movie Ahí está el detalle. Cantinflas went on to make more than 50 films, becoming a well known entertainer and legendary comic throughout Latin America and in Spain. Cantinflas made two movies in English they were Around the world in eighty days and Pepe.
Cantinflas became the president of the Mexican Actors Union and he also was the secretary of their film workers union. Most of the money that Cantinflas made was put towards real estate and bullfighting. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Once he passed away the US Senate held a moment of silence in honor or his memory.
He was best known for the way he spoke in movies. Some of his characters like El Barrendero for example, always talked to any and everyone but he would make the conversation so difficult to follow that no one would understand and that was very funny to many fans. It started a new term call Cantinfleada, the term used was ;estas cantinfleando; which means Cantinflas talk was always used when someone became difficult to understand. The word cantinflear was included in The Real Academia Española dictionary. A rumor surfaced in 2003 that Cantinflas’s son was abusing Cantinflas.http://www.biographybase.com/biography/Cantinflas.html
