The first people of Canada were native Indian people, mostly the Inuit also called Eskimo. In about 1000, Leif Eriksson probably stepped onto the Canadian shores. But written history begins in 1497 when the explorer John Cabot reached what is now Newfoundland or Nova Scotia. Jacques Cartier claimed the land for French in 1534 and in 1608 Quebec was founded. In the meantime, the English Hudson Bay Company had been putting down roots. This lead to the conflict between France and England called the Seven Year’s War from 1756-1763. In 1763, the Treaty of Paris gave England control of Canada. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0107386.html?pageno=1
