  • Camper Van Beethoven is a California-based Alternative Rock band led by singer-songwriter David Lowery. Though the band formed in 1983, its first breakthrough work was 1988's Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart, which exposed listeners of college radio to the band's eclectic sound: folk rock with elements of ska, psychedelia and Eastern European traditional music. The follow-up, 1989's Key Lime Pie was a commercial and critical hit, yielding a #1 single on Billboard Magazine's Modern Rock chart - a cover of "Pictures of Matchstick Men" by the '60s band Status Quo. After a hiatus of over a decade, during which Lowery fronted his more pop-rock oriented band Cracker, CVB released a 2002 song-by-song cover of Fleetwood Mac's 1979 Tusk LP, and then a full-fledged reunion album, 2004's New Roman Times.
