  • Life and Career

    Cameron Diaz spent much of her early professional life as a model. She started at the age of 16 and traveled the world during photo shoots for various modeling campaigns. At the age of 21, she landed the lead role in The Mask, in which she starred opposite Jim Carrey. She had no acting experience prior to being offered the role, so she spent time getting training after receiving the job.

    The Mask got her noticed by audiences, but after its release, Diaz decided to act in more independent films, which had less mass appeal.

    Her second rise in popularity came when she starred in the 1998 film There's Something About Mary, in which she played the romantic lead opposite Ben Stiller. Following the success of the film, she went on to become one of the highest paid female actors in Hollywood, starring in such films as Vanilla Sky and Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York.
