Camel is an American brand of cigarettes manufactured by R.J. Reynolds, the second-largest tobacco company in the United States. Richard Joshua Reynolds, the founder of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, introduced Camel cigarettes in 1913. Camel cigarettes contain a blend of Turkish and Virginian tobacco. The camel symbol was chosen because the cigarettes were made with Turkish tobacco. The Camel Cigarettes slogan was "I'd walk a mile for a Camel."http://www.trivia-library.com/a/history-of-product-names-and-trademarks-camel-cigarettes.htm http://www.rjrt.com/whoweare.aspx
In addition to cigarettes, Camel also makes Snus chewing tobacco, Orbs stick strips (available only in Portland, OR, Columbus, OH, and Indianapolis, IN), and Camel Dip (available only in Colorado and Florida).
Joe Camel
Joe Camel was introduced in 1987 as the mascot for Camel cigarettes. However, after years of controversy and accusations that Joe Camel was being used to market cigarettes to minors, R.J. Reynolds discontinued the use of Joe Camel in 1997.
