  • The popular comic strip Calvin and Hobbes followed the adventurous of imaginative six-year-old Calvin and his stuffed tiger, Hobbes, who appears as a real animal to the boy. The strips were primarily intended as humor, but nevertheless dealt with a lot of serious themes, including the flaws of the educational system, the need for adults to remain young at heart and environmentalism.

  • Calvinball

    One of the strip's perennial subjects was the game of Calvinball, a chaotic, frequently violent rejection of the notion of organized team sports. The game was introduced in as part of a three-week story arc in 1990, in which Calvin is embarrassed and insulted by an organized game of baseball, and decides to create his own sport in protest. The only rule of Calvinball is that you cannot play by the same rules twice.
