In September 2008, Activision confirmed a November 11, 2008 release date for the game. Call of Duty World at War was officially announced by Treyarch in June 2008 as the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty World at War will be set in World War II during the final push into Europe as well as several key battles from the Pacific Theater. Players will take on the role of two main characters, one a Russian military conscript and the other a United States marine, as they combat the remaining Axis forces.
