This page contains a full text walkthrough for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, the first person shooter developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC. Released worldwide on November 10, 2009, it is the sixth installment of the Call of Duty series and the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare.
Gameplay
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 consists of four skill levels, with Veteran being the most difficult and at this level gamers are awarded the majority of the game's achievements. Gamers select desired difficulty level at the end of the first mission. Once selected, the difficulty level affects mission time limits and how many times they will be struck by enemy fire with each gunshot. The tutorial serves as a gauge of the gamers recommended difficulty level.
The four levels are:
- Recruit
- Regular
- Hardened
- Veteran
The following text and video walk-through covers each of the game's 19 missions including those performed by the two special forces units: Task Force 141 and the US Army Rangers.
Each new mission is unlocked once the previous one has been successfully completed. This prevents missions from being skipped. The one exception is the No Russian mission. Due to the nature of the mission, gamers will be asked the first time they begin game-play if they would like to skip this mission. Skipping this mission will not impact achievements or game completion.
Introduction
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 takes place five years after the events of Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. In this release, Russia is in political turmoil with their leader Vladimir Makarov having set in motion a series of events that threaten global security. After a series of terrorist attacks, Task Force 141 led by Soap MacTavish is deployed to Russia and Kazakhstan to infiltrate a secret mountain military base. The Task Force is then deployed to Rio de janeiro to capture an arms deal linked to the plot, and on to Afghanistan.
S.S.D.D.
- NOTE: The first level functions as a tutorial.
- Begin the game with as US Army Ranger Pfc. Joseph Allen training the local Afghanistan militia with Sgt. Foley.
- Allen does a quick weapons demonstration at Sgt Foley's request, picking up an M4A1 to shoot at the targets. Allen then tosses some frag grenades.
- Once the militia training is finished, Foley directs Allen to meet Cpl Dunn at The Pit, a live-fire training ground that's more suitable for testing your skills..
- Follow the stairs down to The Pitt entrance.
- Head north.
- Locate an equipment shelf near the base perimeter that outlines the edge of the map.
- Check the illustration for the bridgelayer and watchtower.
- Dunn demonstrates switching to your sidearm for faster weapons access than reloading.
- Pick up the Desert Eagle and practice swapping between your primary weapon and sidearm.
- Dunn then directs you to run the course for General Shepherd to show him you are ready for a special mission.
- Select your weapon from a SCAR-H Foregrip, MP5K Holographic, ACR Holographic, or M9.
- Pass the Corporal to enter the training grounds.
- Run through the grounds and shoot down the hostile targets while avoiding civilian targets.
- Hostiles must be cleared in each area before continuing.
- At the halfway mark, kill the target with the knife attack.
- At the end of the training grounds, you will receive a grade based on speed and number of civilians hit. The game then recommends a single player campaign level difficulty.
- Once you clear the training, a wide variety of weapons are available at the entrance. Select from the M9 Pistol, AU, Holographic. SCAR-H Foreg rip, Desert Eagle. and MP5K Holographic.
- Before leaving The Pit, check the corner of the base interior across from the entrance for a laptop on the desk.
- After selecting your weapon, head back up the stairs to exit.
- Arrive in the midst of sheer chaos with military trucks ferrying wounded from the front lines. You are called out to help with the incursion in a nearby city for the first actual mission of the game.
Team Player
- Continue play as US Army Ranger Pvt. Joseph Allen.
- Spawn with your allies below the destroyed bridge on the river bank.
- Crouch and look around to evaluate the situation.
- Your squad is in the midst of a firefight with enemies on the other side of the river.
- Take cover from enemy fire by remaining crouched behind the embankment.
- Hold your position.
- Drive the millitants from the area to allow the bridge layer to span its gap to cross.
- Remember not to shoot any civilians and only fire when the order is given.
- Wait for the technical to roll up on the bridge gap.
- Take out the squads of militants with a grenade or two.
- Move out once the area is clear.
- Proceed up to the bridge.
- Wait for your Humvee.
- Hop in back.
- Watch the airstrike take out the building on the other side of the river.
- Man the turret as the convoy rolls out.
- Continue to man your turret.
- Take out enemies once you get clearance to fire.
- Pull up at the school.
- Take fire on the militants on the rooftops with your turret until the convoy heads into the alley.
- Take out the technicals with the mounted machineguns.
- Wait for the Humvee to ram the technical in the alley.
- Be prepared to exit the Humvee when you are blasted by an RPG.
- Run and take cover in the nearby school building.
- Clear the second floor of enemies with your flashbang grenades.
- Make your way to the second floor.
- Take out any remaining enemies.
- Follow the target ranger Sgt Foley.
- Take out the shooters at the window.
- After Sgt Foley says: "I saw one of them head into the classroom," head into the classroom and pick up the laptop.
- Exit through the rear entrance of the school once the school is cleared out.
- Find a laptop outside the rear entrance of the school on the ammo crate next to the cab.
- Continue to kill enemies you see as you proceed.
- Regroup with Shepherd and the other rangers to end the mission.
Cliffhanger
- Begin the level as your character, Task Force 141 member Gary "Roach" Sanderson, on a mountain ledge with "Soap" MacTavish. You are tasked with infiltrating a Russian airbase and recovering a data box from a downed satellite
- Wait for the fighter jet to fly overhead.
- Climb the wall of ice with Soap using ice picks.
- Use the ice picks via the Fire button for your right pick and Iron Sights for your left pick.
- TIP: Don't release a pick when you're reaching with the other one!
- Arrive at the top.
- Jump over the small gap.
- Soap grabs your hand as you miss and saves your life.
- Soap pulls you up.
- Finish climbing the rest of the way up the mountain.
- Pay attention while Soap explains your new gear.
- Activate the Heartbeat Sensor on your ACR.
- Watch the scope. Anyone will appear as small blips on the sensor, making it easy to track enemy soldiers.
- Stop moving every few yards and scan the area for enemies as you proceed.
- Follow Soap around the base perimeter.
- Target the left guard per Soap's instructions and take him out while Soap takes out the right.
- Repeat with the second patrol unit.
- Use the Heartbeat Sensor and stealth weapons to sneak into the base.
- Head over to the guard tower.
- Make your way up to the catwalk.
- Get the laptop.
- Carefully make your way through the buildings to the airfield southeast of your position.
- Plant C4 on the fuel depot airstrip.
- Make your way west to the hanger to meet up with Soap.
- Find the two techs working on the Mig-29.
- Smash the window of a hangar and pick up the laptop.
- Enter the hanger.
- Soap stabs the guard in the neck and directs you up the stairs to obtain the ACS module while he works on the satellite.
- Pick up the ACS module from the table at the back of an office area.
- Soap radios about this time, letting you know he has been discovered.
- Quietly return downstairs in time to hear Major Petrov ordering you to surrender.
- Detonate the C4 in response.
- Fight your way out of the base after the explosion.
- Follow Soap down the hill.
- Take cover where you can and provide cover fire for Soap.
- Soap kills another enemy with his ice pick.
- Escape on the snowmobiles down the steep hill.
- Drop off and stay to the right until you get to the checkpoint.
- Continue taking out enemies along the way.
- Make your way to the fence.
- Take a left.
- Locate the small group of trees in front of you.
- Head to the right side of the grouping to locate the laptop.
- Follow the waypoint marker and Soap's direction as you make your escape.
- Jump the gorge to reach the LZ and drive up to the waiting chopper to meet up with Kilo Six-One.
No Russian
No Russian
- NOTE: There is an option to skip this controversial level at the beginning of the game for those who do not want to kill civilians. If you indicated at the beginning of the game that you have an issue with a mission containing disturbing content, you will not play this mission.
- Begin with your character, Pfc Joseph Allen under deep cover as CIA agent Alexei Borodin in an elevator with Vladimir Makarov and three other gunmen in the Zakhaev International Airport, Moscow, Russia.
- It is your role to earn Makarov's trust and kill all of the enemies you can find.
- Follow Makarov through the airport terminal.
- Walk slowly from the elevator to the security checkpoint.
- Open fire on the civilians.
- Continue walking methodically through the airport.
- Use your M240 and M4A1 frequently along the way.
- After the events in the terminal, a heavily armed FSB Russian assault force is waiting for you.
- Use grenades and the M203 to take them out with their riot shields.
- Continue fighting your way after Makarov through the hallway to the ambulance.
- Makarov shoots you with the M9, leaving you for dead.
- This triggers an international incident that leads to war with Russia when the FSB discovers your corpse.
Takedown
- Play as Task Force 141 member Roach in Rio de Janeiro.
- You are tasked with capturing Makarov's associate, Rojas, an arms dealer under the protection of the local militia.
- Start the level in a car with another soldier, following a white van on its way to see Faust, one of Rojas' associates who may know his current location.
- Stop in front of the hotel.
- Rojas' associate Faust is approached by gunmen from the van while under surveillance by Task Force 141.
- Faust shoots the gunmen from the van with his Desert Eagle.
- Once they are dead, Faust takes one of their rifles and shoots at the Task Force, killing Roach's driver while Roach dives under the dashboard.
- Soap runs ahead once the firing stops.
- Follow them into the alley where Soap tells Roach to shoot Faust in the leg before the fade out.
- When action resumes, Faust is being prepped for interrogation.
- Soap and Ghost remain behind to interrogate while Roach, Meat and Royce are sent to track down Rojas.
- Make your way down the alley with Meat and Royce.
- Exit from the alley at the back of a hotel beside a broken down fence that drops into a rough part of town, the favela.
- Meat drops ahead of you into the favela.
- Follow him.
- Throw enemy grenades back at the hostile militia by approaching the tossed weapons and tapping the grenade button.
- Do not hesitate when doing this or the grenade will detonate and take you out.
- If you are not going to toss the grenade back, immediately take cover.
- Continue to the upper favela.
- Move from cover to cover to avoid the enemy fire.
- Do not keep your back exposed or you will be shot from behind.
- Be careful about using shanties. Enemies may be hiding in them.
- Red barrels are explosive. Keep an eye on them and make use of them while you can.
- Continue proceeding to the southwest corner of the lower favela by going west and then south to the alley exit.
- Hug walls and scan low rooftops for enemies.
- Take down any targets that you can with the scope or knife.
- Do not harm any civilians or you fail the mission instantly.
- Pick up the first laptop from inside the house with the full storage cage.
- Continue to the alley next to the chain link fence by the soccer field.
- Watch for the angry dog lunging at the fence.
- Keep moving.
- Shoot the dog to get him before he attacks, or press the Sprint button to snap his neck if you are too late.
- Find the house with the ladder leading to the roof.
- Climb up to the roof for another laptop.
- Be ready for the continuing militia assault.
- Head southwest.
- Hug the walls along the alleys between the buildings.
- Go to the brick building behind the blue building.
- Enter for the third laptop.
- Use Flashbangs to daze your enemies in the alleys for a few moments.
- Proceed carefully.
- Use short controlled bursts of gunfire to take out your enemies.
- Duck into buildings to escape gunfire if needed.
- Take care as you pass buildings with doors.
- Continue down the right southern wall.
- Find the flaming car in the upper favella.
- Position the car in front of you with the white objective dot to the left.
- Enter the building to the right of the car.
- Descend the narrow staircase.
- Pick up the laptop.
- Proceed to the large multi-story building in the final alley to find Rojas.
- He appears on the second floor of the building.
- Do not shoot him or the game ends.
- Soap slams into him from behind and smashes him into the parked car below.
- The helicopter extraction is late. Rojas is secure, but your team is stuck in the favela and surrounded by enemy militia.
Wolverines
Wolverines
- Start the mission as Private James Ramirez with the U.S. Army Rangers in a small U.S. town, as Russian military forces airdrop in and Russian armor rolls through the streets.
- Continue down the street in your transport until it is blasted by a Russian BTR.
- Follow Sgt Foley and your squad to take cover in a nearby alley.
- Continue behind the houses to avoid the street and BTR.
- Stay with Foley as he calls for support from Command.
- Begin heading to the target area on foot.
- Follow your squad through backyards and a creek bed to the next street while Russians parachute into town.
- Stay with Foley and your squad and go into the small green house across the street.
- Wait until the BTR moves up the street.
- Continue towards the smoke from the Raptor's downed chopper.
- Sneak past the BTR using Smoke Grenades.
- Refill weapons and supplies at an ammo depot by pressing the Use button.
- Proceed into the alley.
- Take out the Russian soldier with the tangled parachute.
- Go into the Nova Gas Station next to Joe's Diner.
- Pick up the laptop from the office.
- Use Frag Grenades to get past the transport truck with its squad of troops.
- Take out the troops.
- Head over to the east of the Burger Town.
- Proceed to the garbage structure.
- Pick up the laptop from the dumpster.
- Continue east to the Taco-To-Go.
- Pick up the third laptop in the dining area.
- Head to Nate's restaurant with Foley.
- When you arrive, Sgt. Foley speaks with the soldiers defending Raptor, your target UIP for this mission.
- NOTE: Raptor has been secured, unconscious, in the meat locker inside Nate's. He's injured, and Foley sends Corporal Dunn to check on him. The squad had a supply drop on the restaurant's roof, including an M-5 automatic sentry gun.
- Enter Nate's.
- Climb the ladder to the roof.
- Find the ammo resupply crate and turret.
- Fire on any hostile forces with the turret.
- Use the M14 EBR Thermal to take on the Russians using smoke screens.
- Move the turret to tackle the troops that come in from the north.
- Reload with the ammo crate as needed.
- Plant Claymores by the ladders to block enemies from easy access.
- Listen for Foley to yell "breach" to deal with any enemies that get through the ground troops.
- Shortly after the ground assaults are taken out, a huge missile slams into the ground.
- Leave the roof and move away from the building before the missile attack.
- Begin heading back to the diner.
- Stay behind cover and wait for the BTRs to pass.
- Run across the street.
- Approach the diner.
- Clear the diner and secure it.
- Take out any troops coming in the back door.
- Once the area is clear, grab the Drone Control Rig and operate the Predator.
- Use the Predator to deal hammer blows to the assaulting Russian infantry.
- Destroy BTRs and troop transports before you go after clusters of infantry.
- Take the Stinger from the diner.
- Escort Sgt. Foley as he carries Raptor to Burger Town, just south of Nate's.
- Use Smoke Grenades to create cover as you approach.
- Use any Frag Grenades to clear the building.
- Move inside once it is clear.
- Proceed to the roof.
- Provide cover fire for Foley while he moves Raptor to the meat locker.
- Clear out any remaining foot soldiers.
- Use the Stinger to take out the approaching helicopters.
- Run to the friendly convoy that has come for you and your squad to end the mission.
The Hornet's Nest
The Hornet's Nest
- Continue as Roach escaping the favela with his squadmates.
- Soap calls his friend Nikolai to pick you all up at the south market with his helicopter.
- Check the first house on the right.
- Enter it to retrieve a laptop.
- Follow Soap, Ghost and the gang up the slope to the south.
- Come out in the square with a large brick building in the center.
- Take cover by the low wall surrounding the building.
- Be ready for the Russians to come in from the south.
- Take down the gunner first and then focus on the remainder.
- Watch for the second technical.
- Again, take out the gunner first.
- Once they are taken out, head over to the toolshed.
- Pick up the laptop.
- Head south to the street where they entered the square.
- Proceed through the gate to the street.
- Pick off the fleeing militia.
- Follow the street as it turns to the open field filled with trash.
- NOTE: Hostile militia are in the field using the trash for cover.
- Use any grenades you have to flush them out.
- Finish off any survivors.
- When the field is clear, take either route to the LZ.
- Continue to take out Russians along the way.
- Find Pelayo's ice cream shop.
- Enter the residence next to the shop.
- Access the second floor.
- Pick up the laptop.
- Proceed up the road to the west. Ahead, an open field wraps around to the south, where the market waits.
- Continue to take out any militia along the way.
- As always, focus on the gunner first when technicals approach.
- Proceed to the market.
- Use grenades to clear the market.
- Clear any remaining enemies you see before entering.
- Take out the stragglers hiding in the back with either submachine guns or shotguns.
- Kill seven chickens in less than 10 seconds for the Colonel Sanders achievement.
- Soap waves off Nikolai so you can neutralize the remaining militia before heading to the secondary LZ.
- Follow Soap over to the rooftops, hoist yourself up, and then chase the team.
- Sprint across the rooftops with your team to Nikolai's helicopter.
- The whole team jumps, but you miss and fall to the ground.
- Run through the building in front of you.
- Find the staircase leading back up to the roof.
- Climb it.
- Run across the rooftops to the final LZ.
- Slide down the sloped roof.
- Hit the ground.
- Make a final sprint for the chopper.
- Jump for the hanging ladder to end the mission.
Exodus
- Start off on foot with a SCAR-H with a Red Dot Sight and an M9 playing as Private James Ramirez.
- NOTE: Begin by destoyring the enemy's anti-aircraft batteries so the civilians can be evacuated.
- Engage the Russian troops through a suburb with the help of a Stryker ICV, callsign "Honey Badger."
- Follow a street until you reach the enemy-held tollhouse guarded by a sentry gun.
- Use the Stryker as much as possible.
- Continue to defend it from any enemies with RPGs that you find.
- Once the tollbooth is cleared, enter the neighborhood with heavily occupied houses on either side.
- Use them to avoid enemies in the streets.
- Use the Stryker to suppress the enemy while you clear them out.
- Make your way to the golf course.
- Destroy the anti-aircraft batteries with artillery strikes.
- Once this first objective is completed successfully, continue to the second: to secure and evacuate a High Value Individual (HVI).
- Continue further into the suburb.
- Access the house where the C-130 Hercules has crashed.
- Enter the house.
- Secure the HVI from the panic room.
- Grab the briefcase containing documents.
- Take note of Viktor from Makarov's assault team as you prepare to leave.

- Begin as Gary "Roach" Sanderson riding a SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) from the USS Chicago, a Los Angeles-class submarine, to the oil rig.
- NOTE: You are equipped with an M4A1 Carbine with a Red Dot Sight, Silencer and M203 Grenade Launcher (SOPMOD), and a SCAR-H with a Thermal Scope and Silencer.
- TIP: The silencers on both weapons disappear after placing the C4 on Deck Two.
- The objective of this mission is to take over an oil rig being used as a SAM site by the Russians so Task Force 141, as well as the U.S. Navy and Air Force, can safely assault The Gulag.
- At various points of the level, you will need to decide where to breach into a room.
- Once broken into, your character will move in slow motion while the enemies are dispatched and the hostages saved.
- Encounter the Little Bird helicopter.
- Use the AT4 and rocket launchers to take out the chopper and the enemies rappeling down from the upper deck.
- Continue to work your way to the top deck.
- Use your SCAR with the thermal scope to take out the enemies after they deploy their smoke grenades.
- TIP: Claymores will come in handy at this point as well if the enemies flank you around the cargo containers.
- Clear the area before tackling the last breaching door.
- TIP: Beware the exploding barrels.
- Take out the enemies that charge out.
- Finish off any remaining.
- Once the area is clear, join Soap on the helipad.
- Climb onto a Little Bird to head over to the Russian Gulag.
The Gulag
The Gulag
- Play as Gary "Roach" Sanderson as you and the rest of Task Force 141 storm The Gulag, an old Russian prison, to rescue Prisoner #627.
- Start off armed with an M14 Enhanced Battle Rifle, an M4A1 Carbine with a Red Dot Sight and M203 Grenade Launcher.
- Begin the mission on a MH-6 Little Bird helicopter.
- Continue with the other Little Birds to the remote Gulag prison camp.
- NOTE: As you progress, some F-15s destroy a surface-to-air missile (SAM) site on the nearby ridge.
- Snipe the soldiers on the towers as your Little Bird flies over the Gulag.
- Pay special attention to those armed with RPGs.
- Once the manned towers are taken care out, the helicopters land.
- Continue to fight the enemies on foot.
- NOTE: One of the remaining Little Birds will help clear the enemies on the higher floors.
- Continue through the courtyard to the prison entrance.
- Replace your M14 EBR before entering since the remainder of the mission entails close-quarters fighting.
- Continue to the control room where the Ghost takes control.
- Fight your way counterclockwise around the prison, while Ghost continues to unlock the doors you need to get through.
- Descend the corridor to the square room in the center of the prison ring.
- Crouch down to avoid enemy gunfire until Ghost finishes unlocking the next door.
- Grab a RIot Shield from the weapons rack.
- Follow Soap down the hall.
- Wait until Soap reaches the rappel point.
- Swap out the Riot Shield for another weapon.
- Continue to follow Soap into the dark hallway.
- Equip your night-vision goggles.
- Remove the goggles at the end of the hallway.
- Follow Soap into the pipe room.
- Wait for soap to throw the flashbang.
- Take out the enemies behind the pipes.
- Head to the other side of the pipes.
- Follow the hallway.
- Take out the three enemies behind the right turn with a grenade.
- Continue ahead to the breaching position.
- Plant a charge to take out as many enemies as possible during the bullet-time slow motion sequence.
- Take out the enemies in the first chamber.
- Focus on those on the floor first.
- Continue focus on those above you on either side that can be viewed by searching for their laser sites.
- It is best to take them out with grenade launchers.
- Continue to the second chamber once the first is cleared.
- Take out the shielded enemies that charge with your M4A1 Grenadier.
- Run through the room.
- Jump in the hole in the floor.
- Follow Soap to Prisoner #627 (Captain Price) at the final breaching position.
- Thinking Roach is a Russian, Price punches him and Roach falls to the floor.
- Follow your squadmates to safety as the Navy begins bombing the area.
- Don't get too far behind or you will get lost and be killed by falling debris.
- Roach is knocked out at the dead end.
- After he regains consciousness, Soap shoots a flare to attract the attention of the airborne choppers.
- Wait for the zip line to be lowered by the waiting helicopter.
- Approach the SPIE rig.
- Attach your cable to be airlifted to safety as the Navy finishes off the Gulag.
Of Their Own Accord
Of Their Own Accord
- Begin play as Private James Ramirez in a makeshift hospital beneath the National Mall armed with an M4A1 Carbine with a Holographic Sight, an M203 Grenade Launcher and an M9.
- NOTE: You may also select from an M16A4 with a Red Dot Sight, M14 Enhanced Battle Rifle, Desert Eagle, and an AT4 in the starting bunker before heading outside.
- Exit the bunker into wartorn Washington DC.
- Advance along the road.
- Pick up additional M16s from the dead soldiers in the surrounding area.
- Make your way to the Department of Commerce.
- Follow Sergeant Foley and your squad through the Department of Commerce.
- Destroy the SAM site on the balcony.
- Continue to the southwest corner of the fifth floor.
- Provide fire support with your M82 and Thermal Scope against the Russians armed with Javelins.
- Continue to defend your position from "foot mobiles" entering the building.
- Use Claymores to cover the advance corridors until the Russians halt their assault.
- Follow Foley's instructions to use enemy Javelins to take out as many enemy vehicles as possible.
- NOTE: This allows the Washington Monument evacuation site time to rescue the wounded.
- Take out any Mi-28s that try to attack your crow's nest with with Javelins or a grenade launcher.
- After hearing from central command, retreat to the roof to avoid being overrun by Russian forces.
- Rendezvous with Navy SEAL teams on the roof.
- Board the UH-60 Black Hawk.
- Mount the minigun loaded with High Explosive rounds.
- Continue to take out Russian infantry and vehicles at the World War II Memorial.
- Once the Russian forces overrun the area, all U.S. forces are ordered to evacuate the city.
- NOTE: During the evacuation, your chopper is hit by enemy SAM fire from Robert F. Kennedy Department of Justice Building. Sgt. Foley instructs the pilot to bring it up and take out any SAM sites. The chopper crashes after taking another hit.
- Ramirez and several other Rangers survive to make their last stand.
- NOTE: Pvt. Wade hands Ramirez an M4A1 with a full magazine, and is killed in the process.
- Continue to fight off Russian troops with your remaining ammo.
- After using the last magazine, a Havoc searchlight light shines on the player, whiting out the screen.
Contingency
Contingency
- Begin gameplay with a scoped M14 Enhanced Battle Rifle with silencer, a USP with Silencer and a Tactical Knife.
- Captain Price immediately begins plans to end the war after his rescue from the Gulag.
- Task Force 141 is directed to secure a route to a docked submarine in Russia so that Price can make his way to the submarine.
- Follow Price's instructions while taking out patrols in the snow-covered woods.
- Be careful not to alert enemy patrols of your presence.
- Move quickly on the trigger when necessary to take them out if you can't avoid them.
- Follow Price into the woods to avoid the BTR-80 attack.
- Rejoin the task force to begin the attack on the sub base.
- Use the Predator Missile as much as possible to take out the tanks, helicopters and clusters of enemies.
- Follow Ghost to the building while Price heads to the sub.
- Price launches a nuclear missile, intending to detonate it as an EMP in the upper atmosphere.
- NOTE: This ensures the safety of Foley and the 1st Battalion in Washington, D.C, but the shockwave does destroy the International Space Station.
Second Sun
- Begin play with an M4A1 Carbine with Holographic Sight, M203 Grenade Launcher and an M9.
- Pick up one of the M203 Grenade Launchers in the streets as the EMP damages the holographic sight.
- Pick up seconds after Pvt. Ramirez's team has been shot down to defend your current position against the Russian forces.
- Play briefly as Sat1, an unnamed astronaut on an EVA mission outside the International Space Station (ISS), as a search light whites out the screen.
- Mission Control in Houston asks to look toward the dark side of the Earth for the SLBM that Captain Price launched.
- Observe the missile's path until it detonates in the atmosphere above Washington, D.C.
- The shockwave destroys both the station and the player once it reaches the ISS.
- The explosion then causes an EMP that blacks out all the East Coast except for Florida while it saves the lives of the Army Rangers in Washington.
- Air vehicles fall from the sky as the player's team continues to seek shelter in a nearby building.
- An Army runner directs the team to location Whiskey Hotel, the White House.
- Take out the remaining Russian personnel in the office building.
- Make your way to the President's secret bunker under the East Wing.
Whiskey Hotel
- Begin the mission with the weapons you had at the end of the previous level.
- Emerge from the bunker with your team onto the South Lawn of the White House.
- Meet up with Col. Marshall.
- NOTE: Marshall explains to Sgt. Foley that they're looking at the "high ground," seeing the American flag still up on top of the White House.
- The squad should be able to talk to Central Command if they can retake the building.
- Sgt. Foley leads his team over the left flank to reach the West Wing.
- The machine gun fire will make it difficult to advance, especially on the harder difficulties.
- Destroying the searchlights makes the gunners less attentive.
- Hearing from a speaker behind a painting in the Oval Office, the team has just 2 minutes before the Air Force initiates the "Hammerdown Protocol" and flattens the city in order to take out the Russians.
- The strike will be aborted only if green smoke is spotted on the roof of the White House.
- Fight your way through the building.
- Get to the roof to pop green flares signalling the Air Force to abort the fire mission.

- Begin play as Roach with an ACR with a Holographic Sight, an M203 Grenade Launcher, and an M9.
- Your mission is to find and take out Makarov at a safehouse.
- Proceed past the mine field.
- Crouch after the first one is triggered to avoid being killed.
- Dodge the ambushing troops advancing through the smokescreen and the mortar fire.
- Get to the safehouse.
- Head to the basement first.
- Take out the enemies there while Ghost takes out the enemies on the larger ground floor.
- Take out the enemies to the right on the mezzanine.
- Make your way to the top floor.
- Locate the computer containing the intel necessary to find Makarov.
- Stock up and prepare defenses.
- Head to the basement weapons room and ammunitions cache.
- Pick up some Claymores to slow down the enemies.
- A light machine gun will also come in handy.
- Download all the information from the computer.
- Continue to defend the computer while the files download.
- Once the download is complete, fall back to the extraction point.
- Make a run to the helicopter while avoiding mortar fire.
- Roach is carried off by Ghost after being injured.
- Head to the LZ.
- General Shepherd takes the files and makes a remark about covering one of the loose ends.
- Shepherd then betrays them and shoots Roach and Ghost.
- Shadow Company troops soak the corpses of the player and Ghost with gasoline before Shepherd sets them on fire with his cigar.
The Enemy of My Enemy
- Begin play as Captain "Soap" MacTavish.
- Your mission is to escape the aircraft "boneyard" and get to Nikolai's airplane.
- This level is a three-way fight, as Makarov's men fight Shadow Company, who will also target the player if he/she picks sides.
- The two armies take each other down if the player leaves them to it.
- At various points, you will need to engage them.
- Captain Price has a conversation with Makarov and uses the level's name in the famous saying "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
- Makarov reluctantly helps Soap and Price by revealing the location of Shepherd.
- Drive a jeep into Nikolai's plane with the coordinates to General Shepherd's secret base to end the level.
Just Like Old Times
- NOTE: With most of Task Force 141 eliminated and nearly all out of allies, Captain Price and Captain MacTavish resolve there is nothing left to do but neutralize General Shepherd. Thus begins a suicide mission to infiltrate Shadow Company's command base and kill Shepherd.
- Begin gameplay during a sandstorm as "Soap" MacTavish, hiding with Price in the sand.
- Proceed toward a ridge.
- Ambush a group of Shadow Company soldiers.
- Hook up on a bridge and rappel down with Price.
- Take out the two guards below standing in front of the cave.
- Head inside.
- Hide as a patrol of soldiers check out what happened to the group they took out earlier.
- Sneak past a group of soldiers having a meeting.
- Kill the two soldiers with tac lights coming down the stairs.
- Continue upstairs.
- Take out the Shadow Company soldiers that breach the door.
- Take the riot shield for cover.
- Continue along the catwalk while Price finishes off the group.
- Take out several groups of soldiers before proceeding to a door that Shadow Company soldiers have locked.
- Breach the door.
- Kill all the soldiers behind it.
- Clear the room.
- NOTE: Shepherd notifies the soldiers in the cave that the site has been breached and that he is going to set off explosives inside the cave to attempt to kill Soap and Price.
- Hack the door controls so you can get out before the explosions go off.
- NOTE: Soap is injured during the escape.
- Shepherd then calls in an artillery strike that Soap and Price survive.
- Proceed to the Zodiacs that Shepherd mentioned earlier.
Endgame
Endgame
- Begin play as "Soap" MacTavish, chaasing the traitor, General Shepherd, with Captain Price.
- Get into a Zodiac speedboat.
- Continue to give chase through the cave and down the river while dodging shots from Shadow Company and OpFor.
- Return fire with the Mini-Uzi while driving the boat.
- Keep an eye on Shepherd's location as marked on the screen.
- Do not let Shepherd get too far ahead or you will fail the mission.
- Follow Shepherd through a narrow cave, and into a wide open area.
- Stay out of the open areas.
- Keep your distance from the right shore.
- Take out any enemy Zodiacs you see.
- Avoid enemy Little Birds and their miniguns.
- Also avoid enemies firing with RPGs.
- Continue to the rapids.
- Go under the bridge.
- Catch sight of Shepherd's Zodiac entering the cargo bay of a Pave Low helicopter.
- Steady the boat while Price fires three shots at the helicopter.
- The boat follows the chopper through the current and over the waterfall.
- Wash up on shore.
- Pick up your knife.
- Head towards the flames in the distance.
- Kill the Shadow Company soldiers emerging from the crashed chopper with the knife.
- Catch sight of Shepherd as he runs into the sandstorm.
- Follow him until you locate him leaning on a car.
- Price tackles Shepherd as he is about to execute Soap.
- Alternate between left and right triggers/mouse buttons to crawl towards Shepherd's pistol.
- Soap wakes up to see Price and Shepherd engaged in a brutal fistfight.
- Soap presses the "use" button repeatedly to pull the knife from Soap's chest and stabs Shepherd in his left eye.
- Nikolai is piloting the chopper that rescues Price and Soap at the end of the game.
