Though no release date or story has been defined, internet speculation rumors that Call of Duty 5, the fifth installment in the popular Call of Duty series, will take place during the second world war, with emphasis on the Pacific Campaign, rather than remaining focused in Western Europe. According to Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith, the game will feature a "new military theater." Developed for six platforms (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, DS, PS2), the first person shooter is expected to be released before the end of Activision's fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2009. Activision has yet to officially confirm the developer of Call of Duty 5, although rumors from late 2007 point to Treyarch, the developer of Call of Duty 3. The announcement was made in conjunction with the bigger news of the impending Vivendi-Activision merger.
