This page is a full text walkthrough for the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 3. It was designed with the normal difficulty setting in mind and includes step-by-step instructions for completing all 14 chapters of the single-player campaign. Outside of the achievements and the controls, the content of this walkthrough still applies for the PC, PS3, PS2, Wii, and Xbox versions of the game.

Taking Cover
- The most important thing to know in Call of Duty 3 is that if you're in the open in a firefight, you might as well be dead.
- Whenever I say "Grab some cover" throughout the walkthrough, what I mean is get behind some object that stands between the enemy and your entire body. That way you can pop out, fire a few shots, and then move back into cover when you start to get shot up.
- Call of Duty 3 uses a regenerating health system, so there's no downside to waiting until you're low on health and then quickly getting out of the line of fire and waiting until your health regenerates back to 100%.
-
Auto-Aim
- This game helps the player out a lot through the use of auto aim. By holding LT and zooming in on an enemy, you will essentially lock on to that enemy and can either shoot them right there, or you can fine tune your aim and go for a head shot.
- Not only is this a good method for killing enemies, but it's also great for finding them. If an enemy is camouflaged or hiding behind a piece of cover but you're not sure where, scan the area by holding and releasing LT and take note of whether auto aim picks someone up or not.
-
Compass
- Aside from showing you north, south, east, west, and everything in between, your compass is also useful for telling you where enemies are, where your allies are, what you need to destroy, and where you need to go.
- Red dots are your enemies while green arrows indicate your allies and squadmates.
- The star on your compass is something that will be referenced a lot throughout this walkthrough. It indicates the general direction of where you are supposed to go as well as pointing out your objectives.
-
Cooking Grenades
- Cooking grenades is a very important tactic in Call of Duty 3 for two reasons.
- First, the timer for grenades in the game is very long. The enemies are smart enough to get out of the way if you give them enough time to react to the grenade.
- Second, the enemies are also smart enough to throw the grenades back at you. If this happens, you're probably not going to have enough time to get out of the way yourself. One of the most embarrassing ways to die in any FPS is by your own grenade.
-
Throwing Back Grenades
- Fortunately your enemies generally don't know how to cook grenades themselves. So if a grenade lands at your feet and you see the fist icon appear that indicates you can throw it back, you generally will have enough time to do so.
- However, do not follow the on screen instructions for throwing back grenades. Instead of holding X to pick up the grenade, just press RB like you normally would when throwing a grenade.
- Holding X causes you to pick up the grenade, but you won't actually throw it until you press RB. It's pointless to have to press two buttons to do an action that can be completed by just pressing one.

Chapter 1 - Saint Lo
- GameAnyone: Saint Lo (1/2) (Time: 10:46) | 2

Part 1
- As with all Call of Duty games, your first objective is to undergo some basic training.
- Walk up to the barrels and take the M1 Garand. Shoot the five helmets that are placed on top of the wooden posts.
- TIP: Use this opportunity to get used to the game's auto-aim system. If you bring up your sights near a target, your crosshair will snap right to target and essentially lock on to it. This is a vital technique that you will use to quickly find and take out enemies later in the game. Also use this chance to adjust the vertical and horizontal sensitivity to something that you feel comfortable with.
- Huxley will then open a box containing a frag and smoke grenade. Throw two frag grenades into the barn. One through the window and one through the door.
- TIP: You can "cook" a grenade by holding down RB. Be sure to be wary of the red circle that replaces your crosshair. Generally you want to throw the grenade when there are two red lines still left on the circle.
- Pick up a smoke grenade and throw it using LB.
- Turn around and head south. Hit B to crouch under the barbed wire fence and reach a box containing a Thompson machine gun. Click the Right Stick to use a melee attack and knock the cover off.
- You're now done with basic training. Hop on to the truck and get ready to be thrown right into the war.
-
Part 2
- Once you regain control quickly run to the broken gate and find some cover.
- You see that church in the northeast? That's where you want to go. Move from cover to cover while taking out any Nazis that would be a threat.
- TIP: In situations like these where most of your enemies will be far away from you, stick to your rifle. In this case, stick to the Garand at least until you get inside the church.
- Once you clear a path, make your way to the front entrance of the church. Be aware that it is heavily fortified so proceed carefully. Always check the corners for enemies hiding behind walls.
- Hold B to go prone and crawl under the rubble at the end of the church. Shoot the enemies that appear before you but ignore the tank.
- Continue through this trench until you reach a broken down house. Crouch behind the bar and take out the soldiers hiding behind the doorway to the west. This would be a good time to use a grenade.
- Head through the doorway and follow the path to another dilapidated house. Once you go through the doorway, you'll be ambushed by a enemy soldier in a scripted event. Alternate between presses of the RT and LT as fast as you can and then press the button shown to disarm the enemy. He's not going to give up without a fight, so repeat the process one more time to finish him off.
-
Part 3
- You now need to tag targets for your tank to destroy. To do this, hop on to the tank by holding X at the rear, bring up your binoculars by clicking and holding the Left Stick, and press X when you have a target in your sight.
- The three targets that you want to take out are the machine gun nests to the northeast, east, and southeast. They're all easily identifiable by the swastika flags near each of them.
- Remain on the tank as it continues on its path. When it stops, you'll need to tag the next machine gun to the north. After the tank blasts it twice, you'll proceed onwards.
- The next time the tank stops, you're going to need to tag the enemy tank. Once it is destroyed, you're finally done with binocular duty.
- The tank you're riding will be destroyed while you're on it, but don't worry, you're not dead.
- When you regain control, proceed through the building and enter the cafe on your left through the hole in the wall.
-
Part 4
- Since we'll be doing some confined combat in here, it would be a good idea to switch to your Thompson or whatever other machine gun you might have picked up.
- Proceed through the wine cellar while taking out the two enemies that inhabit it.
- Head upstairs to be met with a little more resistance. Take out the machine gunners with well placed head shots or melee attacks since they won't notice you until you shoot them or get close. Throw a grenade or two through the doorway to take out the enemies guarding the next room.
- Once the rooms are clear, follow your squad outside and take cover by the wall.
- Go from cover to cover as you make your way inside the broken down building ahead.
- Follow your squad into the doorway next to the Nazi flag and head up the stairs.
- You need to hold this position until support arrives. Enemies will appear from below you, to the east of you through windows, and from behind you through the stairway that you just came in through. Of the three, the highest priority is the stairway, so keep your attention focused mainly over there.
