    California State University, Fullerton was established in 1959 as Orange County State College. The institution started classes utilizing buildings on the campus of Fullerton Sunny Hills High School. Orange County State College moved to its permanent campus in 1960. The institution underwent several name changes starting in 1962, where it was renamed Orange State University. In 1964, it was changed to California State College at Fullerton, then to California State College, Fullerton in 1968.
