    The octuplets born on Monday, January 26, 2009 were born nine weeks premature, but were all healthy. The six boys and two girls, being dubbed A-H, were all off ventilators the next morning.     On the family's Web site launched in February 2009, Suleman says that the babies are healthy and "growing stronger every day".

    Suleman already had had six children by artificial insemination, ages 2 to 7, before she gave birth to eight babies.   • Octuplets' Grandmother Speaks Out

    The mother of the octuplets was reported to be 33-year-old Nadya Suleman, by the British tabloid, The Sun.The Sun: Questions Over Octuplets (January 30 2009) Nadya's mother, Angela Suleman, said in addition to the new octuplets, her daughter had six other children at home—including a set of twins. Suleman said her daughter had embryos implanted last year, and doctors later gave her the option of selective reduction, which she refused.   • Controversy

    The birth of the octuplets raised controversy because medical guide lines recommend the implant of two to three embryos for women of Suleman's age, who was 33 when the octuplets were born.     Suleman said the treatment for the in vitro fertilization that resulted in the octuplets was provided by a physician at the West Coast IVF Clinic in Beverly Hills, formerly known as the West Coast Infertility Medical Clinic.
