Cafepress History
Cafepress is an online store which allows people to buy all sorts of original products with interesting designs made by average people (as opposed to the commercial merchandise available in stores). In 2009 Cafepress changed their business model no longer allowing designers to set their own price in the Marketplace, the current commission is limited now to 10%. In theory the "official" claim is that this would result in much lower prices for the costumers, the reality is that Cafepress took away a chunk of the profits that the artist were making effectively rendering the enterprise practically unprofitable. This caused hordes of Cafepress fans to close their shops swearing never to come back. Cafepress has had its share of controversy over the years and its forums are heavily moderated against any criticism of the company. They still remain one of the largest providers of Print on Demand products on the market. -
