  • Caetano Veloso is a influential Brazilian singer-songwriter and activist who was a pioneer of the Tropicalia genre. He has released more than 50 albums to date.
  • Career

    Veloso began recording in 1967 after moving to Rio de Janeiro. He collaborated withe other Brazilian musicians including Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, and Os Mutantes. He was a pioneer of Tropicalia, a avant-garde style that was originally considered to be extremely controversial.

    Veloso's songs were often banned and censored due to the political nature of his lyrics. In 1969 He and fellow musician, Gilberto Gil, spent several months in prison and were later exiled due to their political views. He spent several years in London until returning to Brazil in 1972.
