This is the first head-coaching job for Rose, who had a career record of 124-38 entering the 2010 NCAA Tournament. He was an assistant at BYU for eight years prior to being named head coach. Rose was a player on the 1983 Phi Slama Jama Houston team that lost to North Carolina State in the national championship game. Rose was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June of 2009. However, with treatment, he was able to continue coaching, and the cancer is now in remission.http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700014841/BYU-basketball- Coach-Dave-Rose-is-now-enjoying-the-process.html
