Should be called "QBYU" not "BYU"
Over the years, the Cougars program achieved much success under the direction of head coach LaVell Edwards, who developed a number of quarterbacks for the National Football League. These include not only Detmer but Gifford Nielson, Marc Wilson, John Beck and Super Bowl winning quarterbacks Jim McMahon and Steve Young. Yet it was Robbie Bosco who led the team to their only national championship in 1984. Other notable players from the program include Todd Christensen, Andy Reid, Brian Billick, Bart Oates, Trevor Matich, Kurt Gouveia, Jason Buck, Virgil Carter and Doug Jolley.
