The Butthole Surfers have made their mark on the music underground with their distinct style and notorious live performances.
The band is widely acclaimed but has never achieved mainstream success. Their only gold selling album is Electric Larryland which features their biggest hit single 'Pepper'.
The band has changed personnel frequently. In 2008 the band reunited with what many feel is the classic lineup: Gibby Haynes, Paul Leary, King Coffey, Jeff Pinkus and Teresa Nervosa
Bit of History
- Eighteen different members have joined and left the band since they started in 1981.
- Two songs from their piouhgd album were featured in Beavis and Butt-head on MTV.
- The lead singer Giby Hanes was with Johnny Depp at the Viper Room the night that River Phoenix died of an overdose.
- Early names for the band included Dick Clark Five, Nine Foot Worm Makes Own Food, the Vodka Family Winstons.
