  • A burn, in a medical sense, is a type of injury caused by drastic temperature disparities, chemicals, radiation, or friction. In traditional classification, a burn can be one of six degrees. Current classification refers to how deep the damage is or "thickness" of the injury. A burn can affect people of any age although some are at higher risk than others. In most cases burns occur in the home and can be taken care of with home treatment.
