Burger King ran advertisement campaign for its Texican Whopper in Spain and the United Kingdom in April of 2009. Some found the ad offensive, stating Burger King used an improper stereotype of Mexican culture in the ad as well as used the Mexican flag inappropriately, as a cape worn by a small lucha libre wrestler.FOX News: Burger King 'Little Mexican' Ad Slammed in Spain
After learning of the issue, Burger King announced it would revise the advertisement.Advertising Age: BK to Revise Ad After Complaints From Mexican Official
Television Ad
The 30-second television advertisement features a tall, presumably Texan cowboy and his horse responding to a newspaper classified ad for a roommate wanted. The cowboy shows up at the door of a little person dressed as a lucha libre wrestler. The video continues with the wrestler and the cowboy performing everyday duties, such as cleaning and enjoying the Texican Whopper. The voice-over announcer states the two were "brought together by destiny" and that "but somehow, one plus one equals three."YouTube Video: Burger King... Texican Whopper from Burger King
