A bundt cake is simply the name used for a dessert cake baked in a ring-shaped pan with decorated sides. The first bundt pan was created in 1950 to help making a type of coffee cake easier, since traditional cast iron pans were heavy to use. The first bundt pan was made from aluminum. Bundt cakes tend to be buttery and dense, but almost any kind of cake can be made in this pan, provided it is well greased, as some cakes will stick to the fluted sides of the pan.
