  • The bullmastiff was believed to have originated in the 1800s in United Kingdom. It was bred for guarding an owner's possessions and property. The bullmastiff was created as a cross between an English mastiff and a bulldog. They are typically a very devoted, alert guard dog with a good-natured temperament, but can be very willful.
  • Health Problems

    Bullmastiffs may encounter either hip or elbow displaysia, which is similar to arthritis. They are also prone to problems with their eyes and hypothyroidism. Additionally, bullmastiffs may develop cancer or hot-spots, skin abrasions similar to eczema.
  • Sports or Activities

    Bullmastiffs are primarily used as family pets, as they are great protectors. The breed is not naturally aggressive, but do use their large size for intimidation.
