Buffalo Springfield was a popular rock band from Los Angeles, California that started the careers of Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Bruce Palmer, Dewey Martin, Richie Furay and Jim Messina.
While founding members Neil Young and Stephen Stills first met at a folk club in Ontario, it wasn't until the two were living in Los Angeles that they got together to form the band. After a stint as the house band at the Whiskey a Go Go club in Hollywood, the band Buffalo Springfield signed a contract with Atlantic Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1966.
While Buffalo Springfield only released three studio albums and broke up after a couple of years, the single "For What It's Worth" became their most lasting and enduring song. Written after watching police subdue protesters on Sunset Strip, the Stephen Stills-written song became an anthem of the 1960s and brought the band the biggest success of their career.http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/california/la-me-dewey-martin6-2009feb06,0,6541056.storyhttp://rockhall.com/inductees/buffalo-springfield/bio/
