Early Years
The Sabres were founded in 1970, joining the league for their first season in 1970-1971. In their fifth year in the league, the Sabres made it into the Stanley Cup Finals after defeating the Chicago Blackhawks and Montreal Canadiens in the first two rounds. The Sabres however lost in the finals to the Philadelphia Flyers.
1999 Playoff Run
After defeating the Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs in the post season, the Sabres returned to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1999. The Sabres were defeated in a third overtime period of game six by the Dallas Stars. The goal was quite controversial, as many agreed former player Brett Hull was clearly in the goaltender's crease, which was not allowed. The game has since been referred to as "No Goal!" and is still widely debated today.
