The Buffalo Bulls football team represents the University of Buffalo in football competition at the Division I-A or Football Bowl Subdivision level. The team competes in the Mid-American Conference, where they have been a member since 1999 when they made their return to Division I-A football. The school plays their home games at the University of Buffalo Stadium, located in Amherst, New York.http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/teams/page/BUFF/buffalo-bulls
The school is coached by Jeff Quinn, who is entering his first season with the team. He previously was the offensive coordinator for Cincinnati and coached that team in the 2010 Sugar Bowl, where they were drubbed by Florida Gators Football Florida. Quinn replaced Turner Gill, the former Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback. Gill posted a mark of 20-30 in his four years with the school, including the conference championshio in 2008, when the school went to its first bowl game in fifty years.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4759552
Quinn inherits a team that went 5-7 in 2009 and 3-5 in the conference. Some of the better known players that have played for the school include wide receiver Drew Haddad, quarterback Drew Willy, defensive lineman Gerry Philbin who is a member of the AFL Hall of Fame, offensive lineman Jamey Richard and defensive end Trevor Scott.
2010 Buffalo Bulls Football Preview
Quinn will need to work some magic in order to turn the Bulls around after last season's 5-7, 3-5 record. One thing that was drastically clear last season was that the Bulls were unable to make key plays at crunch time in games. Five of the team's seven defeats were by a touchdown or fewer, with three of those by a field goal or less.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/teams/schedule?teamId=2084&year=2009
The team returns just five starters on offense, which puts things in a state of flux. Gone are quarterback Zack Maynard along with receivers Naaman Roosevelt, Brett Hamlin and tight end Jesse Rack. They do return running backs Brandon Thermilus and Ike Nduka, who helped the Bulls put up a better season rushing the ball than they had in 2008 with the services of a healthy James Starks. The team also returns four of their five starters on the offensive line.http://www.presnapread.com/no-108-buffalo/
Defensively, the Bulls return eight starters, six of which are in the linebacking corps and the secondary. Three time first team All MAC selection Davonte Shannon anchors the secondary from his safety spot, while the team also has depth at the corner position thanks to Sherrod Lott, Josh Thomas, and Dominic Cook. Thomas and Cook have combined to make 54 starts at corner over the past three years. The team is a little thin as far as returning talent on the defensive line, but that may be offset by the strength through the rest of the alignment.http://www.presnapread.com/no-108-buffalo/
