Bud Black is the Manager for the San Diego Padres . Black played Major League baseball from 1981-1994 and was a part of the Kansas City Royals during the team's 1985 championship season. Black becoming a pitching coach for the Anaheim Angels from 2000-2007, helping the team win the World Series in 2002. he is currently the manager of the San Diego Padres.
Playing Career
Black made his MLB debut for the Seattle Mariners on September 5, 1981. In 1984, Black led the American League in 1984 in WHIP with 1.128 while with the Kansas City Royals. The following year, Black was a member of the Royals when they won the World Series.
Coaching Career
Black gained notoriety as a pitching coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 2000-2007, helping such pitchers as John Lackey, Jered Weaver, Kelvim Escobar and Francisco Rodriguez. Noted for his coaching talent, several teams wanted to interview Black for managerial positions. In 2007, Black took the helm of the San Diego Padres as the team's manager.
