Country music legend Buck Owens pioneered the "Bakersfield sound" genre that gained in popularity starting in Bakersfield, California, in the 1950s. Owens influenced many traditional country artists, one of the most notable being superstar Dwight Yoakam, whose sound is often identified with the genre.
