  • Bubblegum Crisis is an eight-episode Japanese anime/manga series with one sequel and multiple spin-offs, including the popular remake, Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040. The series is aesthetically influenced by Blade Runner, as well as the Cyberpunk movement. Set in a mid-21st Century Tokyo, it concerns the adventures of four female warriors, called the Knight Sabers, as they use their brains, brawn and super powers (conferred by their super-suits) to battle rogue robots called Boomers. The Sabers are led by Sylia Stingray, the daughter of the scientist who invented Boomers. While the Stingrays' feminist-seeming themes might appeal to female viewers, their form-fitting outfits seem to be meant to appeal to males.
