Brutal Legend is an action adventure and real-time strategy video game created by Double Fine Productions and published by Electronic Arts. The game is available on Xbox 260 and Playstation 3. Brutal Legend was released in North America and Europe in October 2009. Brutal Legend was originally published by Vivendi Games however when Vivendi merged with Activision the game was dropped from the portfolio. The game was then picked up by Electronic Arts; however there was a lawsuit between Activision and Double Fine. That battle was settled in court.
The second game from the game developing studio Double Fine, Brutal Legend takes the player to a world of Heavy Metal, where swords sprout out of the ground like trees, mountains are made of skulls, and the wilderness is littered with porcupines with steel quills. The game itself is an open world adventure game that blends elements of action, racing, and Real Time Strategy all into one package.
The structure of this walkthrough will break the game down by its main story missions and side missions and will detail tips on how to beat them on the normal difficulty setting.

General Tips
Combat Tips
- It's important in Brutal Legend to mix up axe and guitar attacks and never stay attached to one or the other.
- Generally, when focusing on one enemy, you'll end up finishing an axe combo by knocking them away. Once they're out of reach of your axe, instead of running over to them and hitting them with another axe combo, use some guitar attacks.
- Later on, you'll even learn a guitar attack that lets you bring enemies towards you, thereby ensuring that an enemy is never out of your reach.
- While defense never becomes too much of an issue in Brutal Legend, when dealing with powerful enemies like Doviculous or Ophelia on the battle field, make sure to utilize your blocks and evasive rolls to turn the tides on them when they try to use a powerful strike.
Double Team Attacks
- Double team attacks are performed by approaching any friendly unit and pressing Y.
- Each unit has their own specific double team move that they can perform with Eddie (Or the other two leaders if you're playing in multiplayer). Experiment with each one to learn the strengths and weaknesses of each attack and how they can figure into your own game strategy.
- One of my personal favorite combos, and one that you'll frequently see me cite throughout the guide, is using the Thunderhog's double team attack to stun a group of ground infantry, quickly get off, execute a Facemelter solo, and watch as an entire group of enemies dies right before your eyes. This is an invaluable combo that will help tremendously when facing an army that is larger than yours.
Stage Battles
- Stage Battles make up the bulk of Brutal Legend's missions, especially in the later parts of the game, as well as the entire multiplayer portion.
- Fans are the game's resources and are required to build more units and obtain upgrades.
- You can gain fans by building merch booths on top of unoccupied fan geysers. Like most RTS's, maintaining your resource suppliers is a huge aspect of the game, and most of the battles will take place near merch booths, so always keep an eye on them.
- Likewise, you should always be looking to harass your enemy's merch booths as well. Don't be afraid to split up your forces and send a distraction force to one enemy merch booth and another force to one of the other enemy controlled merch booths.
- Once your stage upgrades to level three, you'll be able to upgrade some of your weaker units and make them more relevant in the late game.
Hidden Goodies
- Scattered throughout the world are several types of hidden goodies that require different actions to unlock them.
- Fire Serpents can be released by targeting them and hitting them with a Pyro Blast
- Legends can be unlocked by using an Earthshaker near them (press X and A at the same time)
- Buried Metal can be unearthed by playing the Relic Raiser solo next to them.
- Tab slabs other than the ones required to progress can also be found and will teach Eddie new solos.
- Landmarks can be discovered by finding viewing stations marked by skulls and pressing Y next to them.
- Finally, Motor Forges are also strewn throughout the world and can be unearthed by playing the Relic Raiser solo next to them.
Story Mission 1 - Welcome to the Age of Metal
- After the opening cutscenes end and you gain control of Eddie Riggs, you'll be faced with a bunch of cloaked monks with swords.
- Run away from them for a while to listen for all of Eddie's funny little quips that he gives. Once he starts repeating himself, go to the axe in the middle of the room and press Y to pick it up.
- With "The Separator" in hand, destroy all of the nearby monks using the A button to swing the axe.
- TIP: Try to mix up quick attacks with unstoppable attacks. Hit them with a three hit combo, then hold down A to finish the combo off with a heavy attack.
- When you kill the monks, head back up the stairs and pick up the Guitar.
- The guitar, or "Clementine" is used as Eddie's source of magic attacks. Press X repeatedly to zap an enemy with bolts of lightning, or hold it to cause fire to erupt from underneath the enemy.
- NOTE: Don't overuse your guitar. If you use it too much, it will be too hot for Eddie to touch and you won't be able to use it until it cools all the way down.
- Continue killing monks until the game teaches you how to perform the Earthshaker attack. (Press A and X at the same time)
- Head to the end of the room and use the Earthshaker three or four times to bring down the walls of the temple.
- Finish off the rest of the enemies and you'll be interrupted by a cutscene.
- Once the cutscene ends, mix up guitar and axe attacks on the giant nun monster to bring it down.
- Clear out some more of the monks and then climb on the back of the giant walker creature that the nun came in on.
- Press Y to activate the walker and proceed down the bridge of bones.
- Once you reach the bottom, use the Earthshaker to break free of the red force field that the monks trap you in.
- Attack the remaining monk and you'll be interrupted by another cutscene that introduces you to Ophelia.
- You will learn the Double Team maneuver once the cutscene ends. Add it to your arsenal as you continue forward through the groups of monks and nuns.
- TIP: Every unique character has their own double team attack with Eddie. With Ophelia, pick her up with the Y button, then throw her towards an enemy with the A button.
- When you kill all of the enemies in the area, Ophelia will lead you towards the door.
- After seeing what's on the other side of the door, head straight ahead towards the altar and press Y.
- The game will teach you how to perform the "Relic Raiser" solo, which can be done by holding down the Right Trigger and then inputting the buttons as instructed in the guitar tab above.
- After you raise the relic, press Y again to start building "The Deuce."
- Plow right on through the closed door ahead with The Deuce and continue driving until you reach a ramp that takes you down into an arena.
- While Ophelia works on opening the gate, get out of the car by pressing Y and take out the four monks up ahead.
- Once you kill the monks, a cutscene will play that will introduce the first boss of the game.
BOSS - Giant Worm
- Continue driving in circles around the giant worm until you see him move back to slam his head down on the ground.
- Once he moves back, activate the nitro by pressing in the Left Stick to get out of the way.
- When he misses, his tendrils will be stuck in the ground. Driver forward for a little while and then hold down B to activate the hand brake and turn around.
- Speed towards one of his tendrils and plow right through it.
- Repeat this three times, once for each tendril, and you'll take the boss down.
- Not quite done yet. The worm has pinned Ophelia against the gate. All you have to do now is use an Earthshaker to drop the gate on the worm's head.
- In the final part of this introductory mission, you'll be back in the Deuce and will have to drive along a crumbling highway.
- Avoid being on the same side of the road as the walkers since that side is generally where the road will crumble.
Story Mission 2 - Exploited in the Bowels of Hell
- When you regain control after the cutscene, Ophelia will tell you to check your map by pressing the Back button.
- On the map screen you can place way points which will translate over to the game world by placing a giant pillar of light at your destination.
- TIP: The Deuce's turn signal blinkers will also serve to guide you to your destination. When there are no blinkers on, just keep going straight. When the left or right blinker turns on, turn towards that direction. Finally, when both blinkers turn on, make a 180 because you're going the wrong way. Try to pay attention to your blinkers so you don't get lost.
- Head towards the light by using both the light itself and your blinkers to guide you there.
- Once you reach your destination, watch the cutscene to be introduced to the rest of the supporting cast.
- When the cutscene ends, you will learn about Tab Slabs. These slabs of stone are littered across the world and will teach Eddie new Guitar Solos that he can learn to utilize all kinds of cool abilities.
- Head straight towards the Tab Slab and learn your next Guitar Solo, the "Drop a Deuce" solo. This useful number will call your vehicle from anywhere.
- Hold down the Right Trigger and select the Drop a Deuce solo from the menu. Perform the solo to get your wheels, and then head towards the next way point to meet Lars at the Mines.
- TIP: Along the way, keep an eye out on the left side for what looks like an engine with a bunch of red thorny roses in front of it. Play the Relic Raiser solo in front of it to raise a Motor Forge. Head on inside to find the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne, or as he's called in the game, the Guardian of Metal. This is where you will go to upgrade your axe, guitar, vehicle, and all other sorts of things.
- Once you meet up with Lars and the mission begins, head down into the mines and stop next to the first group of headbangers. Use the Battle Cry solo you just learned to recruit them into your group.
- After the cutscene, a couple of not-so-persuaded headbangers will call the guard in. You don't need to worry too much though, since your four headbanger buddies should be enough to take him down with ease.
- After the guard falls, you'll go through a tutorial that teaches you how to use your troop commands.
- Complete the tutorial to learn how to use the follow, attack, and defend commands.
- Once your comfortable with commanding your metalheads, command them to break the barrier up ahead.
- Continue down into the mines and use the Battle Cry solo to pick up more Headbangers along the way.
- You'll be attacked once you reach the bottom by enemy Headbangers, but at this point your own army should be more than big enough to handle them.
- Once you win the skirmish, the boss guard will command his troops to destroy the supports holding up the grinding gyre and send all of the Headbangers on it into the lava.
- Use your follow and attack commands to sweep around the supports and kill any enemies that try to attack them. You can get the enemies' attention from a distance by using your guitar attacks.
- Once you kill enough enemies, you'll be pitted against the boss in a one on one fight.
Boss: "Mittens"
- The main strategy here for taking Mittens down is to lure him over to the caution tape on the floor, shock him with your guitar to stun him, and then use an Earthshaker to drop the coals in the moving claws overhead down on to him.
- Doing so will cause him to raise his hands and allow you to slash him with your axe.
- Repeat this three times, while avoid his own charge and smash attacks, to bring him down.
- After the boss fight, you'll be attacked by an army of guards and headbangers. Create an army of your own by playing the Battle Cry solo in front of the headset mic that Mittens dropped.
- Lead your army into battle to destroy all of the enemies and complete this mission.
Story Mission 3 - Kill Master's Mercy
- Follow the waypoint back to Bladehenge to introduce your new Headbanger friends to Lars and Lita. You'll also find that Ophelia has been beaten to near death by something.
- Lars decides to take Ophelia to the Kill Master to see if he can heal her, and it's your job to follow him. Hop into The Deuce and keep on his trail.
- Once you reach the entrance to the mountain trail, talk to Lars to trigger another cutscene.
- When the cutscene ends and the mission officially begins, start climbing the hill to run into a group of Lionright loyalist Headbangers.
- The game will teach you of the Headbangers double team attack, the Mosh Pit. This is a very useful attack when it comes to clearing an large group of small ground infantry, which is just what we happen to have in front of us.
- Activate the Mosh Pit and plow through the enemies up ahead.
- Continue heading up the hill and killing all of the enemy headbangers along the way.
- Eventually you'll come to a new type of ranged enemy perched on a rock above. Use your lightning and pyro attacks to take them all out from a distance and then continue forward.
- Watch your back for surprise attacks from groups of headbangers and continue climbing up the hill.
- When you hear your group yell "Stampede!" quickly find a Headbanger and start a Mosh Pit. With the Mosh Pit activated, you'll protect yourself from the incoming stampede of Raptor Elks.
- Continue fighting your way up to the top of the hill to reach the Kill Master and complete the mission.
Story Mission 4 - Lair of the Metal Queen
- Get in the Deuce and drive over to the next checkpoint, which is placed right at the entrance to the spider's lair.
- TIP: Look around the area surrounding the checkpoint for a very important solo called the Facemelter. I would also recommend stopping by a Motor Forge and picking up the Shock Bomb special attack, as it can be useful when dealing with the upcoming spiders.
- Once you talk to the guy at the entrance and start the mission, walk on down into the lair and continue along the path until you come face to face against the first group of enemy spiders.
- Mix up close range axe attacks and long range lightning and pyro attacks against the spiders. If they manage to surround you, quickly use an Earthshaker to knock them down and reposition yourself.
- As you continue down the path, a spider sac will burst from above and drop tons of tiny spiders. Wait for a bunch of them to climb on to you and then use an Earthshaker to eliminate them. Don't proceed until you get all of the tiny spiders off of you.
- More spiders await as you continue down the winding path. If you have it, try using the Shock Bomb on a single spider who is in a group. This move can be performed by locking on to a spider with LT, holding X to trigger a pyro blast, then tap X to deliver a bolt of electricity to the airborne enemy. When it crashes back down, it will cause an electric explosion, damaging other enemies in the area.
- Eventually you'll make your way down to where the Spider Queen resides.
BOSS - Spider Queen
- When the battle begins, the queen will try to shoot some kind of liquid metal projectile at you. Avoid it by holding down LT to lock on to the queen, and then pressing B to dodge left or right.
- Your opening occurs when the queen's eyes turn red. As soon as you see this, zap her with a lightning bolt by pressing X.
- This will stun her and allow you to go crazy with axe combos on her head.
- After taking some punishment, the queen will back away and climb up on to her web and send her smaller spiders to soften you up a bit.
- Take care of the spiders the same way you have been up to this point, but be a little more careful because there are a lot of them and they are pretty aggressive. Don't forget to dodge a lot and use the Earthshaker if you get surrounded.
- After you kill her spiders, the queen will come back down and repeat her original pattern.
- Keep on shocking her when her eyes turn red and beating her with axe combos while she's stunned until she goes down.
- After the boss fight, you'll have to race back to the Kill Master before the time runs up. You should have plenty of time as long as you don't get lost along the way. Pay attention to the turn signals and you should be fine.
Story Mission 5 - To the Slaughter
- Talk to Ophelia at the next way point to kick off the next mission.
- In this mission you'll be driving in one of the Kill Master's Thunderhogs and attempting to herd a bunch of Razorfire Boars over to Ophelia so that she can use their innards as weapons.
- Not much to this mission. Just take it slow and drive behind a group of boars, leading them over to Ophelia. Once they're close enough to her, press A to activate the Thunderhog's special ability to stun a group of boars.
- Repeat this several times until Ophelia has enough weapons.
Story Mission 6 - The Battle for Bladehenge
- Follow the waypoint back to Bladehenge and you'll trigger a cutscene introducing the ladies you armed in the previous mission.
- After the cutscene, follow the light over to the front of Bladehenge and talk to Lars and Mangus to start the mission.
- Time to learn the basics of the Stage Battle segments of Brutal Legend. The first thing that they will teach you is how to create Merch Booths on top of fan geysers.
- Bring up your solo menu and choose the Fan Tribute solo. Always use this next to a green fan geyser to claim it.
- TIP: Building Merch Booths on top of fan geysers will increase the number of fans you get, which will allow you to build more units. Always aim to have control of more Merch Booths that your enemy in future Stage Battles.
- Your next task is to build some Headbangers. Hold down the Right Bumper to bring up the unit menu and select a Headbanger to add it to the build queue.
- TIP: When new units are created, they will come off of the stage and wait in front of it for your orders. Don't forget about your recently created units, or they'll just sit there and wait while you're off in a battle.
- While the Headbangers are being created, head to the other fan geyser and play another Fan Tribute solo to claim it.
- Once the Headbangers are finished, bring up the unit menu again and create a group of Razor Girls.
- Now bring up the unit menu again and create a Thunderhog.
- Finally, create two more squads of whatever you want to move on to the next part of this mission.
- Once the battle begins, Lionwhyte's forces will move to attack your Merch Booths. Use your unit commands to have your troops follow you over to where the action is and proceed to use everything you've got to stop the assault.
- TIP: It can be hard to tell which guys are enemies and which are friendlies in battles against Lionwhyte. Use LT to lock on to enemies so you know what to aim for.
- Don't neglect using your double team attacks to help you deal with the enemy forces. Using Mosh Pit is a great way to create a shield against the ranged attackers and plow right through their forces.
- Another very useful combo is using the Thunderhog's double team ability to stun a group of enemies, then quickly use a Facemelter solo to kill a whole group at once.
- After you kill a wave of enemies, another wave will be on its way from the back of the battlegrounds. Use the time you have before they arrive to build some more units and gather your forces together into a single group. Then, lead them over to the Merch Booth that the enemies are aiming for and set them to defend.
- TIP: Pay attention to the warning icons at the bottom right of the screen. These will tell you what's currently under attack and will have an arrow that points in the direction of the attack. Be quick to defend any Merch Booth that comes under attack.
- Use this tips to defend off the final few waves and you'll complete the mission.
Story Mission 7 - Tour of Destruction
- This is the first of several vehicle escort missions that have you driving behind the tour bus and protecting it from enemy bikers.
- The main thing to keep in mind here is that you only have to worry about enemies behind the tour bus, so you should keep always try to keep a fair distance behind the bus.
- The other thing to keep in mind is that bikers have great range with their grenade throws, so you should never assume that an enemy is so far behind that they don't pose a threat.
- If you see an enemy in your rear view (press Left Bumper to check the rear view camera), slow down, let him pass in front of you, blow him up, then use your nitro to catch up with the bus.
- Speaking of the rear view camera, you should always be checking it whenever the coast is clear up front.
- Aside from that, just keep the enemies in your sight, be careful not to drive into any obstacles, and just keep the above tips in mind. Eventually you'll reach your destination and will complete the mission.
Story Mission 8 - Fists Shall Fall
- Talk to Mangus to let him know that the hour of rock is at hand and start up another Stage Battle mission.
- This mission will introduce another few aspects to the Stage Battles, the first of which is Eddie's new wings.
- Put your new wings to the test by pressing in the Right Stick to cause Eddie to take flight.
- Once prompted, center your camera towards the nearest fan leech and press LB to set a beacon on it.
- Next, press Right on the Control Pad to issue the move command, which will send your troops towards the beacon you just set.
- Once the leech is gone, drop back down to the ground by pressing in the Right Stick again and play a Fan Tribute to claim the fan geyser.
- TIP: While this is all going on, make sure to continue creating units at the unit menu.
- Continue highlighting fan leeches with your beacons and sending your units towards them.
- Use your flight to scope out the battlefield and take note of where enemies are coming from. When you see a group of enemies heading towards one of your merch booths, place a beacon and send your troops over to meet them.
- TIP: You should also use your flight to escape from a tight situation. When you see your screen start to flash red, fly away and wait until your health regenerates. There's no huge penalty for dying, but in later stage battles, dying will reward your enemy commander with extra fans.
- Fly over to the top of the enemy base and kill the Bouncer at the top to get rid of the mortar fire.
- Now head back to your troops and continue working on destroying the enemy Merch Booths, building your own, and raising your army.
- Once your army is large enough, march it towards the enemy base and set your troops to attack the wall.
- When the wall falls, the mission will end victoriously for you.
Story Mission 9 - Pilgrimage of Screams
- Follow the waypoint over to where Ophelia is waiting for you and talk to her to start up this mission.
- Have your army follow you down the trail until your stopped by a cutscene.
- Head on over to the cooled lava and get ready to fight an army of enemies on the other side of the hill.
- TIP: Use the Bouncer's double team to use a very powerful Earthshaker attack that will knock a whole group of enemies down in a large radius, in addition to dealing lots of damage to them.
- Once the area is clear, continue heading down until you reach the next lava stream where you'll be greeted by Lionwhyte.
- Continue across the cooled lava and get ready for another battle. Use the Bouncer's double team and Mosh Pits to easily destroy the enemies.
- Proceed a bit farther and you'll reach the end of the trail. A cutscene will play that has Eddie getting a few amps for the Roadies to carry.
- Now that your roadies are armed, time to head all the way back to the beginning of the trail.
- TIP: When seagulls start to gather around the Roadies, use their double team attack to create feedback that will destroy them. Constantly check your Roadies and make sure that they don't have seagulls flying over them.
- As you're heading back, you'll be attacked by more members of Lionwhyte's army. Use your newly acquired Roadies and their double team attack to aid you in your trek back.
Story Mission 10 - March to Impalement
- Drive The Deuce over to the next waypoint located inside the cave on the eastern end and talk to the Roadie to start off the mission.
- Set the command beacon on the arrow tower by centering the camera on it and pressing LB
- Once it's selected, turn to your Roadies and press Right on the D-Pad to issue the Move command.
- TIP: Roadies are invisible to AI controlled towers, thus making them the perfect unit for breaking down enemy defenses.
- Once the tower is gone, Eddie will notice that they have wall mounted arrow towers as well. To get past them, use the Roadie's double team technique to ferry Eddie across to the other side.
- When you reach the stone star wall on the left side, have Eddie hop off and head through opening.
- Lock on to one of the enemies in the tower and hold down X to use a pyro blast and bring down the chandelier above.
- Next, set a command beacon on the tower up ahead, but before you send everyone off with the Move command, find your Roadies and hold down Y to highlight only them. When the Roadies are glowing blue, press Right on the D-Pad and send them towards the tower.
- Once the tower falls, have your whole squad follow you and attack the incoming enemies. When they fall, you'll complete the mission.
Story Mission 11 - Sanctuary of Sin
- Follow the waypoint over to Magnus and talk to him to start off the pivotal battle against Lionwhyte.
- Since the previous Stage Battles were mostly tutorial missions, this will be the first real Stage Battle against an enemy commander.
- The first thing you need after you clear the first group of enemies is secure the three fan geysers up ahead. Set a beacon at one of the leeches and send your current force over to it.
- While your troops are on the way to destroy the leech, queue up a couple of more Headbangers, Razor Girls, and maybe one or two Thunderhogs.
- Once you have two fan geysers under your control, save your fans so you can upgrade your stage to level 2, which will let you create more powerful units, like the Roadies and Bouncers.
- TIP: You will also be able to create Headsplitters as the mission goes on. These ranged vehicles are great for taking out towers from a distance as well as dealing damage to a single target.
- Once you've amassed a decent sized army of about 30 or so, send your guys to attack the enemy controlled Merch Booth up the next set of stairs.
- When you've got control of the final Merch Booth, time to get your final army ready for attack. Try to have at least 3 Roadies and a Headsplitter or two.
- Set a beacon at one of the towers near the enemy's main stage, then fly back to your roadies and hold Y to highlight only them. Press Right on the D-Pad to issue the Move command, which will make them attack the enemy tower.
- If you have more roadies you can set a beacon at the other tower and send them towards it, or you can just hop into one of your Headsplitters and start shooting at it yourself. Make sure your army is following you so they can take care of any stray enemies that try to kill your Headsplitter.
- Once the two towers fall, send your whole army towards the gate to destroy it and complete the mission.
Story Mission 12 - It's Raining Death
- Not much to this mission. You just have to race away from the falling debris and monsters that are on your tail.
- It may take a couple of tries to get used to the course and find out where you're supposed to go, but once you've got it you shouldn't have too much trouble.
Story Mission 13 - Doom's Dawn
- Drive along the snowy path until you reach the waypoint to trigger another cutscene.
- After the cutscene ends you'll be dropped into another stage battle against a new breed of enemies, the Drowning Doom.
- When the mission begins, get inside your Thunderhog and use a stun note to stun a whole group of emo zombies. While they're stunned, hop out and use a Facemelter to kill them all at once.
- Once you clear the area, quickly claim the two fan geysers nearby and start building up your army.
- When the second wave arrives, they'll first stop by the fan geyser at the bottom end of the battlefield and kill the leech. Let them do so and just continue building your army as you wait.
- Once they start coming, use the same strategy of using your Thunderhog to stun a group, then execute a facemelter solo to take them all out.
- TIP: You should also utilize the Razor Girl double team attack to deal with the ranged attackers on the enemy's side.
- While your troops are fighting, head over to the open fan geyser at the bottom and place a Merch Booth on it. It will come under attack during the next wave, but it's not a super high priority so don't rush into battle to save it if you're not ready.
- By now you should have enough fans to upgrade your stage to level 2, so do that now.
- Once you're upgraded, start creating some Roadies. They'll help you out in the next part of this mission.
- Keep on fighting off the waves and rebuilding your army while trying to keep your merch booths alive. Continue using the effective strategy of the Thunderhog + Facemelter combo on the weaker zombies.
- Eventually a cutscene will play that will introduce the Fire Barons. Fire Barons are fast motorcycles that are great on their own against ground infantry. Their double team is a little tricky and involves tracing a trail of fire around a group of enemies to trap and deal damage to them.
- Let the Fire Barons do their own work and focus on destroying the Organist and Lightning Rod vehicles with your Roadies.
- Once the vehicles are dead, just keep up everything you've been doing so far and fend off this final wave of enemies to complete the mission.
Story Mission 14 - The Unhealing Wound
- Short mission. All you have to do is drive to the checkpoint, play the Relic Raiser solo near the red roses by the bridge, and then watch the cutscene.
Story Mission 15 - Deliver the Metal
- Drive Lita all the way back to the waypoint in Bladehenge to start up another tour bus escort mission.
- TIP: Before you start the mission, you might want to buy either the Bolt Thrower or Heat Seeker primary weapon upgrades for the Deuce. They'll make things a lot easier.
- Once you begin the mission, the same tactics apply as the last one.
- Keep your distance from the tour bus and keep constant watch on your rear view camera to see if enemies are coming from behind.
- If you see a bunch of enemies behind you that are lagging, put on the brakes, let them get in front of you, and then blast them away. Once they're dead, use your nitro to catch up to the bus.
- Once you reach the broken bridge, you'll complete the mission and will be granted access to a new part of the world map.
Story Mission 16 - A Number of the Beasts
- Talk to the Fire Baron to begin your next mission.
- In this mission, you're going to have to wrangle up a group of three Metal Beasts by using a Fire Baron's motorcycle to trap them in a ring of fire.
- The first Metal Beast is underneath a huge tree root right in front of you when the mission starts.
- Plow through it to get it to follow you, and then lead it back to the light where Lita is.
- Hold down A to start the trail of fire, and then keep riding in a circle until the ring is complete.
- The Metal Beast will follow you but will stay on the inside of the ring so you don't have to worry about it getting out. Just concentrate on driving in a circle.
- Once the circle is complete, a cutscene will play that has Lita jumping on to the beast and somehow managing to tame it.
- One down, two more to go. With your back facing Lita and her spotlight, head straight out through the gates up ahead.
- Keep going straight ahead and you'll find the second Metal Beast lying next to a pile of junk.
- Lead the beast back to Lita and ensnare it the same way you did for the previous one.
- With your back facing Lita and the spotlight, this time turn left and head into the jungle.
- Keep on following the path, but keep an eye out on the right side for giant tree root with a gate under it. Under this tree root and near the gate is the third Metal Beast.
- Lead him back, trap him in a ring of fire, and then enjoy the next cutscene.
- When you regain control, quickly move around to the back of the statue and play the Relic Raiser solo next to the roses.
Story Mission 17 - Regret's Infinite Mire
- This is an escort mission, but its a little bit unique compared to previous ones due to the fact that instead of the Deuce, you're riding a Metal Beast.
- Lead the tour bus into the swamp. Once you reach the water, be ready for a large group of zombies to appear up ahead.
- Use the Metal Beast's double team fire stream attack by holding A while riding it to bring down the zombies.
- Once the zombies are dead, continue forward until you reach a group of three beastly statue heads. Wait for the tour bus to get there and complain about the blockage.
- Head through the opening on the left and continue forward through the swamp. You'll see a bunch of panthers running away from you head forward.
- Once you reach solid land, head up the hill and you'll be met by more zombies and panthers. Use the Metal Beast's fire once again to bring them all down.
- Push ahead and fight your way over to the backside of the statues. Ignore the sniping panther on the tree.
- Up ahead you'll come across a couple of baby carriages that launch little demons at your Metal Beast. You can't kill these with fire so either just run past them, or jump of the Beast and deal with them using your Axe and Guitar attacks.
- Once Mangus is able to see you again, burn the rope on the left to get rid of the blockage preventing the Tour Bus from following you.
- TIP: Stay near the Kill Master's Thunderhog to get healed if you took a lot of damage in the previous part.
- Continue following the tour bus until you come to a bridge where you'll be attacked by two panthers. Kill them with your fire attacks.
- On the other side of the bridge will be two brides and two carriages. Get off of the Metal Beast and focus on killing the carriages with your Axe and Guitar attacks while the Beast works on killing the brides.
- Continue following the bus over to the end of the path and burn the rope on the left side.
- Kill the enemies in front of the tour bus and then follow it to the Dry Ice Mines to complete the level.
Story Mission 18 - Dry Ice, Wet Graves
- Talk to Lita to start off another Stage Battle mission against Ophelia's Drowning Doom troops.
- Once the battle begins, start up by creating a small army of two Headbangers, one group of Razor Girls, and one Thunderhog.
- While they're being created, fly over to one of the fan leeches and set a beacon on one of them. You should also play the Rally Flag solo next to one of them so that your troops start heading over there automatically without you even having to tell them to go there.
- Once all of your troops are built and are working on destroying the fan leech, save your fans so you can upgrade your stage to level two.
- Place a merch booth on the fan geyser once the leech is gone.
- Fly up and check the status of the enemy's troops. They will either be on the way to attack your merch booth, or they'll be working on securing the one on the other side. Either way, have your army meet theirs and take them out.
- TIP: Remember to use the Thunderhog's double team plus the facemelter combo since it's especially useful against Drowning Doom forces, who's main focus with their small infantry is to overwhelm the enemy with numbers.
- By now your level two stage upgrade should be finished, so start making some Fire Barons. Get about two or three. When your overall load is at about 30/40, start saving up so you can upgrade to level three stage.
- Lead your forces to the enemy's merch booth, which should be on the opposite side of the one that you set up.
- Destroy the booth, claim the fan geyser for yourself, and then work on building and healing your forces.
- When you have the level three stage upgrade, start making some Bouncers and Roadies and send them to your main army.
- Once you have both Merch Booth expansions and have grown your army load to 40, it's time to mount an all out assault on the main base.
- Lead your army into Ophelia's main base, making sure to kill her army before you go attacking her main stage.
- Ophelia's army is likely to be pretty strong as well by now. Stack the odds in your favor with your solos. Use Battle Cry to increase the strength of your ground infantry, face melter to kill off Ophelia's weaker troops, and get on a Roadie to kill the Organists and Lightning Rods.
- Once you kill her army, it should be pretty easy bringing down her stage. Just keep up the assualt, plant a rally flag at her base, and keep on making more units.
Story Mission 19 - Racing the Reaper
- Driver over to Mangus to start up the final vehicle escort mission.
- Not much has changed for this one. If you haven't gotten the Bolt Thrower or Heat Seeker upgrades for the Deuce, make sure that you have them this time.
- Same strategy here applies. Stay at a safe distance so you can see where everything is coming from, check your rear view mirror often, and use nitro if you get too far behind. There's a lot more enemies this time around so you'll have to be quick on the draw to kill them before the bus takes too much damage.
- Once you get to the end of the escort, you'll have to face off against Ophelia and her troops again.
- Let your troops battle it out with the other troops while you concentrate on killing Ophelia.
- Once Ophelia goes down, a cutscene will play and the mission will end.
Story Mission 20 - Sea of Black Tears
- We're nearing the final stretch of the game. It's time for one more Stage Battle against Ophelia and her Drowning Doom forces.
- Like the previous Stage Battle, the first thing you should focus on is building a small army of about two groups of Headbangers, one group of Razor Girls, and one Thunderhog. Make due with those and then save your money to upgrade your stage.
- While you're building up your forces, you should send the force you have right now to start securing fan geysers. Claim the closest one and then be on the look out for Ophelia's army, which should be moving in to claim one of their own.
- Like always, the usual strategy of using the Thunderhog's double team along with the Facemelter solo works perfectly for killing the weaker ground infantry. Once they're dead, your army should be able to handle the rest.
- After claiming the first geyser, work on the second and third ones near the bridge.
- When your level two stage is completed, start recruiting some Fire Barons and have them join up with your main army.
- Once you've claimed all of the fan geysers on your side, order your troops to defend the end of the bridge and place a Relay Flag there.
- From here on, it's all about building your army. Try to tech all the way to a level four stage so you can create the Rock Crusher.
- Once the Rock Crusher is created, get inside of it, order your troops to follow you, and start heading across the bridge.
- Use the Rock Crusher's double team attack to trap a group of enemies and then crush them with a falling stone sword, which deals a ton of damage to all enemies in the area.
- When all of the enemies on the bridge are dead, rebuild your army back to 40 load, and have them meet on the bridge. Make sure you have a Rock Crusher still in tact.
- Use the Rock Crusher to destroy the two towers up ahead.
- With the towers destroyed, you're free to head inside Ophelia's main base and utterly destroy her.
- TIP: You should also upgrade your Headbangers and Razor Girls by highlighting them in the unit wheel and pressing Y.
Story Mission 21 - Abomination Overdrive
- You've made it to the final mission and now will have to face off against Emperor Doviculous and his Tainted Coil army. Note that things are a little different here in this final battle, and as such, it should not be played the same way as previous stage battles.
- The one thing that does remain the same is that you're going to need fans. So send your initial army to attack the nearest fan leech.
- While they're on their way, make a few extra headbangers and razor girls to beef your forces up.
- You'll be attacked by Doviculous and his forces right from the beginning, so head down there yourself and defend your troops. Buff them up with a Battle Cry solo and use the Facemelter to bring down the Battle Nuns and small infantry.
- Claim the fan geyser once its free and then quickly work to claim the second fan geyser. While you're doing that, save up to upgrade your stage to level two so you can make Fire Barons.
- Once your stage is at level two and you have two fan geysers, you're ready to mount your assault. Fly over to the right or left end of the battleground on Doviculous's side and set a beacon at the large tower thing in the corner.
- Fly back to your troops and order them over to the beacon so they can attack the tower.
- While your main force is attacking one tower, make a couple of Fire Barons and send them individually to attack the other tower.
- Once one of the tower falls, immediately fly back to your base where you'll find a tunnel has opened. Summon The Deuce with the Drop a Deuce solo and ride through the tunnel all the way to the end.
- You'll crash through the eye of the tower and drive all the way through it, bringing it down.
- After the cutscene, immediately withdraw your units and send them over to the other tower. Don't make them fight the enemy forces because they'll probably lose. This is a race against time because Doviculous's forces have a tech advantage on you.
- TIP: If you feel like you must fight, use the Deuce and its weapons to deal damage to the big enemy units like the walkers and the ball and chain wielders.
- When the second tower goes down, repeat the same action of driving the Deuce through the eye of the tower.
- Time to take the fight to Doviculous himself. Drive the Deuce up the ramp in the middle and crash through to reach Doviculous's chamber.
BOSS - Doviculous
- When fighting Doviculous you should use a technique that you really haven't had to use all that much thus far throughout the game: the evasive roll.
- Use the standard axe and guitar attacks against Doviculous while he's on the ground, but when you see him use his jumping overhead staff attack, get ready to roll out of the way by holding LT and pressing B.
- After taking some damage, Doviculous will chain himself up and enemies will start spawning nearby.
- Try to use an Earthshaker + Facemelter combo to get rid of the smaller enemies all at once. Facemelters also work great against the Battle Nuns that start appearing later, but you need to be careful you're not in a position to take too much damage while performing the solo.
- Use your guitar attacks on Doviculous while he's chained up to bring him back down to the ground. Once he's back at your level, continue your assault.
- This is pretty much the general flow of the fight. While Doviculous is chained up, be on the lookout for chains that shoot into the ground. Stay clear of the base of these chains since they're about to pull a massive chunk of... something that will explode on impact and deal some pretty heavy damage.
- Keep up the assault and eventually you'll finish Doviculous off with a very satisfying "DECAPITATION!"
- Congratulations on beating Brutal Legend! From here on you're free to explore the world as you wish, complete your remaining side missions, and find some of the many hidden goodies strewn across the world.
Sidemissions
Ironheade Sneak Attack
- Sneak attacks are the most common of the Brutal Legend side missions, but thankfully they are also the most fun.
- The first few sneak attacks can be a little bit tricky if you don't have the facemelter solo. To get by them, what I'd recommend is using the Mosh Pit double team attack with the headbangers to get rid of the smaller enemies without having to worry about your guys getting attacked.
- Once the smaller enemies are gone, you can all focus on bringing down the Bouncer.
- Later on you'll get a Thunderhog and some other allies to join you in your fights.
- Thunderhogs are a great help with their double team attack that stuns all nearby enemies.
- Don't neglect the double team attacks for your other units too. The double team with the Razor Girls is great for focusing on single enemies.
Riding the Death Rack
- This is a pretty basic turret shooting mission where you'll have to help your troops destroy a bunch of waves of enemies before they destroy your turret.
- Pay attention to what your troops say. If they say they're trying to flank you, check some of the other directions that enemies may come from and see if there are any on the way.
- If you see a group of enemies that look like they're a high priority, use your unit commands to order your troops over to where the trouble is so they can help you out.
- These missions will get much easier as you upgrade the Deuce. Try to have the Bolt Thrower or Heat Seeker upgrades before you attempt the later versions of this side mission.
Ride of the Wing Man
- This is one of the few "One Time Only" side missions.
- The object of the game here is to use the headbangers' Mosh Pit double team attack to knock away the bikers whenever they get close to the stage.
- The bikers are easy to pick out from the crowd as they're the only ones wearing shirts.
- When you see one of them get close, head over to a headbanger and press Y to initiate a Mosh Pit. Knock them back a bit, end the Mosh Pit, and then return to the center so you can be ready for the next biker.
- Keep this up for a minute and you'll be victorious.
Summon Fiery Death
- In this mission, you'll be helping out a cannonier fend off enemy attacks by pinpointing where he should fire.
- Note that if the enemies get too close, the cannonier won't be able to fire and you'll have to leave it up to your troops to take care of things. Try to spot the enemies in the distance so that you can get to them before they have a chance to get close.
- The explosion created by the cannonball is pretty big so you don't have to worry too much about leading way ahead of the group of enemies. Still, for faster units, try to set the target a good three feet or so in front of them.
Rabid Deer Chase
- This is another side mission that you only have to do once.
- In this mission, a group of tainted Raptor Elk will run away from you and its your job to hunt them down.
- The Raptor Elk don't stray too much from the pack so you shouldn't have to worry about one going stray. Just keep on their tail and continue blasting them with whatever weapons the Deuce is currently equipped with.
Racing Side missions
- There are also several racing side missions that you'll have against a character named Fletus.
- These are generally pretty easy as long as you continue upgrading the Deuce's performance capabilities as you go along.
- The main thing to note is to just try and get in front of him at the beginning and keep on using your nitro to maintain the lead.
- Don't try to shoot him or bash him off course. Shooting him has no effect and ramming him will usually end up with you getting the worse end of it.
