In his career, Bruce McGill has appeared in more than 60 motion pictures. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas in drama, and appeared in a number of theatrical productions.

Bruce McGill began his career on stage with the National Shakespeare Company in Washington, DC. In 1977 he appeared in his first role in a motion picture, Handle with Care. After this film he played one of his more notable roles in 1978s National Lampoon's Animal House. He has appeared in a variety of television shows also, such as: MacGyver, Walker, Texas Ranger, Miami Vice and Quantum Leap. He has appeared in a number of movies directed by Michael Mann.

McGill has portrayed the roles of a lawyer, a district attorney, a sheriff, a golf legend, a baseball manager, and a judge. In 1987, he portrayed Ernest Hemingway in the movie Waiting for the Moon. In 2005, McGill played the part of a boxing fight promoter in the movie Cinderella Man. In 2007, McGill was cast in the TV series Bionic Woman as a high ranking operative. In August of 2008, he will appear in the movie The Perfect Game which is a true story of a little league baseball team from Mexico. Bruce McGill is believed to be one of the hardest working actors in the business today.
