On March 30, 2008, Bruce Barclay, a county commissioner for Cumberland County Pennsylvania, was accused of rape by William Marshall McCurdy, 20. Police launched an investigation on that charge, and charges of abuse of personal privacy and solicitation of prostitution. Barclay denies charge: According to Matthew Gover, Barclay's attorney, he admits to "errors of judgment" in his private life, but not to rape. During the ensuing investigation, Barclay told police that he had hired male prostitutes on an ongoing basis from the website Harrisburgfratboys.com. Voyeurism: While serving a search warrant on Barclay's residence, police also found hidden cameras in all areas of the house, including the bathrooms. Barclay admitted to officers that he filmed sexual encounters at his home without the knowledge of his sexual partners, which he saved them to his computer for later use. Barclay resigned from public office on April 2. Legal developments: No formal charges have been brought against Barclay, although the police investigation is ongoing. On April 10, the alleged rape victim was charged with one count of making false reports to law enforcement authorities. Police say that video footage from Barclay's hidden cameras appeared to contradict McCurdy's account, showing Barclay and McCurdy engaging in consensual sexual relations.
