Brownsville TX History
When Texas won its independence from Mexico in 1835, the Rio Grande River was used as the border between the two nations. With Brownsville sitting just to the Eastern side of the river, it became the property of Texas and, eventually, the United States. Brownsville was originally named after war hero Major Jacob Brown. After being founded in 1848, Brownsville would soon become a major city after the outbreak of the U.S. Civil War. The city became a major exporter of cotton and other war goods, boosting the economy and population of the area. Even after the war ended, Brownsville remained a prosperous city. Tornadoes in Brownsville, Texas
Brownsville is located in the Midwest of the United States in a relatively flat area. Such an area can be a frequent spot where tornadoes are spawned during thunderstorms. Here are two tornadoes that touch the ground just outside the city near a small gas station. These tornadoes are moving ahead of a line of storms and go past the area without doing any damage. A large rainstorm follows the twisters.
