The ABC dramatic series Brothers and Sisters centers around the wealthy Walker family of Los Angeles, California. Nora Walker (Sally Field), the head of the Walker family, and her five adult children, including Kitty (Calista Flockhart), Justin (Dave Annable) and Tommy (Balthazar Getty) struggle to achieve personal and professional success while dealing with the secrets of the family patriarch, William Walker, that continue to be revealed years after his death.
Background
The show's creator, Jon Robin Baitz, has written a number of successful plays, and was a writer for the series Alias. His co-producer Ken Olin also worked on Alias.
The show underwent a number of changes before getting on the air. The family's name was changed from March to Walker, and a number of the character's backstories were altered. Several casting changes were made as well. The boyfriend of Calista Flockhart's character, Kitty, was originally going to be played by Dan Futterman, with whom Flockhart had co-starred in The Birdcage before Matthew Settle was brought in.
