BT Group, formerly known as British Telecom and occasionally still referred to as such, is a privatized state telecommunications company in the United Kingdom. As well as telecommunication, BT provides broadband internet, and is currently the largest service provider in the region. It is present in over 170 other countries as well, and derives nearly a third of its revenue from overseas operations.

- 1969: Historically conglomerated telegraph companies became a nationalized, extra-governmental division called Post Office Telecommunications
- 1980: British Telecom brand introduced
- October 1, 1981: British Telecom becomes the official name of Post Office Telecommunications
- 1982: License granted to Mercury Communications, breaking BT's monopoly
- November, 1984: Company privatizes, selling 50.2% of the company's shares publicly
- April 2, 1991: Company changes trading name to BT
