Bridgeport, WV is a city of 7,928 people in north-central West Virginia. It is in Harrison County and neighbors the city of Clarksburg. Bridgeport is approximately two hours north of the state capital, Charleston, and about two hours south of Pittsburgh, PA.

Bridgeport WV History
John Simpson traveled to the area that is now Bridgeport in 1764 as a fur trapper. Fur trapping and lumber were two early businesses of the region. Beginning in the 1850s the stockyards took advantage of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, which ran through the town. Later a glass and marble factory located across the street from the stockyards. The stockyards and glass factory remained until the 1970s. The town is currently primarily a residential and retail center and has attracted several businesses formerly located in neighboring Clarksburg, including United Hospital Center.
