The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are a minor league ice hockey team that plays in the Atlantic Division of the American Hockey League. Bridgeport joined the AHL as an expansion team during the 2001-02 season. The Tigers have remained in the same city and under the same name for 10 years. Their National Hockey League affiliate, the New York Islanders, has also remained the same. On November 15, 2010, Bridgeport named Pat Bingham as the new coach of the Sound Tigers, replacing Jack Capuano who was promoted to the head coach position of the Islanders. 2009-10 Season

Bridgeport Sound Tigers 2008-09 Home Opener
The Sound Tigers opened up their eighth season in Bridgeport in 2008, playing in their home opener against the Albany River Rats. The players skated through a giant inflatable Tiger head before the performance of the national anthem. After the national anthem, the captains of both teams gathered at center ice for the ceremonial first puck drop.
