The dramatic film Brick Lane is based on the novel of the same name by Monica Ali.

For her direction of the film, director Sarah Gavron was nominated in 2008 for the BAFTA Carl Foreman Award for most promising newcomer.

Brick Lane is the neighborhood in London where the life of a lonely young Bengali woman, named Nazneen Ahmed, unfolds. The story follows her struggle to live in an arranged marriage while longing to return home to her family.
