Scalabrine was drafted out of the University of Southern California, 35th overall in the 2001 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets. He joined the Nets for 28 games during the 2001-02 regular season, scoring 60 points. After an additional three seasons in New Jersey, Scalabrine signed as a free agent with the Boston Celtics on August 2, 2005. Scalabrine played in a career high 71 games during his first season in Boston, scoring a total of 205 points.
