Defensive end Brian Orakpo played college football for the Texas Longhorns in the NCAA.
Orakpo was selected 13th overall in the 2009 NFL draft by the Washington Redskins on April 25, 2009.
Lombardi Award
Following his senior season in 2008, Orakpo was honored with the Lombardi Award, given to the college football lineman or linebacker, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, as the best defensive player, the Big 12 defensive player of the year by the Associated Press and the Ted Hendricks Award awarded to the top defensive end in the NCAA.SI.com: Texas' Orakpo Wins Lombardi As Top Lineman
Football Career
Orakpo began his college football career as a red-shirt freshman in 2005 with the Longhorns, playing in 13 games and recording 27 tackles, a half sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He was named the Big 12 defensive freshman of the year as well as a freshman All-American after the season. He continued with the Longhorns in 2006, 2007 and 2008, missing four games in 2007 with a knee injury, but returning to help the team win the Holiday Bowl, in which he was named the defensive MVP.Texas Longhorns: Brian Orakpo
